ADVANCED VIDEO DESIGN - FULL YEAR COURSE

This is an elective course designed to build on the skills and concepts 

presented in the primary television production course. 

It permits students to investigate and 

understand in detail the components of the television production process in several different

situations and genres. The course focuses on the details of producing, directing, field

production, and facility management.

PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS

Attendance: A student enrolled in this course is expected to be present at least

90% of the days that class is in session.

Achievement: A student must maintain a D-or better average for the four

marking periods.

OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the course, the student will:

1 Acquire and use the skills necessary to produce a television program from initial idea to

finished product.

2 Acquire skills in directing television programs and use those skills to plan and execute 

studio productions.

3 Learn to light a set effectively according to the requirements of each individual production.

4 Be able to produce, plan, and execute a multi-camera field production (outside the studio.)

5 Understand basic technical aspects of the studio, as well as help in maintaining the

studio equipment.

6 Understand the complexities of, and aid in the management of, the television production

and distribution facility.

7 Acquire an understanding of the basics of the television industry, in areas such as union,

copyrights, and ratings.

8 Acquire an appreciation for the value of teamwork in creating effective television

productions.
