For Parents
Your Importance
When we talk about the Suzuki Method, the most important aspect is the environment for the child. In order to create the proper environment, we need to create the learning triangle. This triangle is created when the teacher, parent, and student are equally respected by one another and when information and values are passed from the teacher to the student and parent, then back between the parent and student.
Your Job
In order to created the most amount of success for your child on their instrument, you need to make sure that you can commit to the necessary undertaking. In my studio, at least one parent must be involved heavily with the progress of the student. Here is my list of expectations for you:
Attend all lessons and arrive on time (on time = early)
Bring all requested materials (instrument, music, lesson book, etc.)
Buy/acquire requested items (method books, instrument maintenance, tools, etc.)
Actively listen
Take specified notes
Only speak in the lesson when spoken to by the teacher, or when asking a question for better understanding
Practice with your child every day according to the assignment
Make sure your child is listening to their Suzuki list and to other professional recordings/performances every day
One of the most important aspects of learning a new instrument is listening. Therefore, the first purchase you should make for your child is the recording of Suzuki Book 1. You can find a link to buy this on the Resources page.
