Room for everyone:

Creating welcoming SCA events

We asked people what makes SCA events welcoming for them.

Here's what we learned:

  1. Community matters most.

It's the people around us and how they behave that make us feel welcome and included, and help us when we struggle. But if there are problems with the community, that stands out more than anything else.

2. Knowledge is power.

When people have information about an event, they can plan to make sure they can participate and enjoy it. Providing information helps everyone, no matter what they need.

3. Stewards can help, and so can the rest of us.

We are a community who cares about helping the people around us and making them feel welcome. There are practical things stewards and their teams can do when planning an event, but we all have a role to play in making sure everyone around us feels respected, valued, and included.
