Dave's DJ Service of Lafayette

Frequently Asked Questions And Answers About Dave’s DJ Service.

Below are ten questions you should ask when hiring a DJ.

1.   Do you have a written contract?

Yes, I use a simple, easy to understand, one page contract for all of my functions which clearly states all important information as well as the non refundable deposit of $300 due at the time of signing and the balance due at the beginning of the functionthefotherfthe unctionthefotherthcoat,.  All other vendors require a contract, so make sure your DJ has one as well.

 2.   Will you be the DJ at our ceremony and/or reception?

Yes, I am the owner and only DJ with Dave’s DJ Service, and when you hire me, I am the one you will meet with in person before you sign the contract.  I am the one who will help with your planning as well as the one who will DJ your function.  Often, the person you speak with is not the person who will DJ your reception.  You should always meet with “YOUR” DJ whenever possible.

 3.  Do you take requests?

Absolutely. Some DJ's will not play your requests and only play music they want and know. That's fine for some people, but I will try to play all your requests and mix them in with popular hits I know will get people dancing and having a good time. I will also play requests from guests, that are clean and appropriate if stated so in the contract.

 4.   How much experience do you have as a DJ.

I have over twenty five years experience as a mobile DJ for weddings and parties, etc.  I have also worked in radio, clubs and on cruise ships.  Whoever you hire to DJ your reception, make sure they have lots of experience.

5.   Do you act as MC and make all of the announcements?

Yes, I am the DJ and MC at all of my events, unless hired strictly as an MC.  I can be as interactive with your guests as you want me to be and make all of the appropriate announcements.  Any professional mobile DJ should be comfortable as MC.  It is a standard part of the job.

 6.   What if something happens to you and you cannot fulfill the contract?

Not to worry, if something happened to me, one of my DJ friends from my local network of mobile DJ's would back me up and make your reception successful.  It is always a good idea to have a backup plan, because things do happen.

 7.   How involved can we be with the music selection?

You can be involved as you want to be.  I’ve done receptions before where the bride only chose one song for the first dance and trusted me to select the perfect song for the rest of the function.  I’ve also done receptions where the Bride had everything pretty much scripted out for me from background music at the beginning to the last song of the night.  I will work with your playlist and your do not playlist, and I do take requests from guests.

 8.   Do you take breaks?

No, I do not take breaks, nor do any DJs I know.  This is one advantage of hiring a DJ instead of a band.  I will not smoke or drink alcohol at your event either.  I find this to be in bad taste and unprofessional.

 9.   What kind of equipment do you use?

I use only professional DJ equipment like JBL pro speakers and sub, Denon controller, HP laptop, Virtual DJ Pro software and Shure and Seinheiser wireless microphones.  I am also one, if not the only DJ with a custom built façade that lights up and hides all of the audio wires.

 10.  Are you going to show up at my wedding reception in blue jeans and flipflops?

Absolutely not, unless you request that I do.  I only wear appropriate professional attire, such as coat and tie indoors or slacks with a polo shirt outdoors for weddings, and semi formal for most other functions.  I will only wear casual if it is appropriate to do so such as at a pool party and the client recommends that I do.
