Aug/Sept 2021 Central French Pyrenees, GR10

Five Vigorous Hikers, Bob, Dave, Ed, Liz and Rick, along with Jeff, a friend from Washington, hiked over a period of 20 days, starting in late August, on or near the GR10 in the western and central French Pyrenees. Bob covered about 136 miles (with 40,000' of ascent) in 17 days, Jeff, Liz, and Rick around 150 miles in 16 days, and Dave and Ed 160 miles in 17 days. All five of the latter averaged an astonishing 3000'+ of climbing per day. The route traversed arguably the highest, and most spectacular and rugged part of the Pyrenees, passing over at least 16 high passes (5 over 8000') and including a two-day detour to the top of the famous Gavarnie Cirque. All of the team, regardless of the extent of their European trek experience, agreed that the GR10, with its steep grades and often rough tread way, was exceptionally difficult.

Pictures by everybody except Liz (camera issues) - Bob produced the report.
