Classroom Management

Classroom Management:

We F.L.Y. Together!

A well-managed classroom serves as a positive reflection of the teachers and the students. In Kindergarten, we want to create an environment that is fun, inviting, and engaging in order to maximize learning time. We have F.L.Y. expectations in our class which remind students what is expected and what they should expect from themselves in relation to classroom behavior. During the first week of school we will develop our F.L.Y. expectations as a class. We will promote them daily in an effort to respect/learn from each other and help us reach our goal of creating a “community of learners.”

Flying with our friends- (Whole Group)-

In Kindergarten, our students will developing a sense of responsibility and independence. Students will take an active interest in their classroom and help to minimize interruptions. In order to do this we will have a classroom job chart and a “COMPLIMENT” chart. The classroom job chart will consist of jobs such as: line leader, line caboose, paper helper, trash helper, lunch helper, door holder, calendar helper, chair helper, librarian, clean up crew, house keeper, tech support, electrician, and restroom helper. All jobs will be rotated on a weekly basis. The compliment chart will be used as a class incentive to work together. Additionally, each time the class earns a compliment from another faculty or staff member for “high flyer” choices they make as a class , they will earn a letter in the word "COMPLIMENT". When the class earns this, they may a special class party or reward. Working together is rewarding!

Learning communities (Small Group)-

There will be four teams set up in the classroom. These will correspond with tracks . To promote teamwork, tracks will be given the opportunity to earn tally marks. Tally marks can be earned by following directions quickly, tidying work space, participation, using manners, working together, encouraging one another, using kind words, etc. Tally marks will be added on Fridays and the team with the most marks will earn a special surprise from our Travel Rewards Selections. Working together is fun!

You (Individual Level)-

As an individual behavior incentive, students have the opportunity to earn High Flyer points. High Flyer points will be given to students on levels green (ready to learn), blue (outstanding) in accordance with our class clipart system. Students will be given many opportunities throughout the day to demonstrate that they are in control of their bodies, voices and they can make good choices. When students demonstrate this, they will be clipped up and awarded a High Flyer point a day. If students demonstrate they are not meeting F.L.Y. expectations, they will be given a logical consequence and clipping down. Levels that do not meet expectations are yellow (think about it) and red (parent contact). Students can always be clipped back up for demonstrating they have reflected on their choices and continue to make "soaring selections” of choices for the remainder of the day. Students that do not reflect on their choices will receive logical consequences, and the loss of gaining their daily High Flyer point. An example of a logical consequence would be having a student clean all tables if they made the choice to write all over a table or practicing walking in line if they were talking in the hall/running down the hall, etc. If a student is on level red, parents will be notified and further action will be discussed. Students on level blue, (outstanding or top of the chart) can earn one bonus High Flyer point a day. Students will be able to choose a prize from the Travel Rewards Selections for every five High Flyer Points they earn. High Flyer points will be tracked on individual student mountain charts.

Making strong choices-

Students will be consistently encouraged to make strong choices while they are inside and outside of school. Students will work to make strong choices, show they can be in control of their voices, as well as their bodies.
