About Us

THE LEGEND OF BELAIRE HIGH SCHOOL

The legend of Belaire began with the appointment of our first principal, Mr. Thomas Hollimon. His vision and dreams, coupled with an unending effort to achieve excellence, set us on a path that has enriched the lives of everyone who has been a part of Belaire.

In May 1974, a group of students from our feeder schools, along with faculty, staff and administration, met to select our mascot and colors. Sporting the banners of royal blue, burnt orange and white, we henceforth be known as the Belaire Bengals.

We began our first year school year in August 1974 with a desire to become the very best educational institution in both academics and extra-curricular activities. We built traditions that were universal and yet unique, thus the idea of "Bengal Land" was formed. Centering traditions, activities and organizations around the homeland of the Bengal Tiger we created our identity.

  • "Bengal Lancer Band": (now know as the Royal Wave): from the famed Bengal Lancers of India
  • "Festival of Diwali": the largest holiday celebration literally translated means a "festival of lights". Our homecoming week is known as the "Festival of Diwali" and is reigned over by the queen or "Ranee" and her court. They are presented in authentic dress as a part of our ceremonies.
  • "The Bo Tree": a magazine of student writings. In India, the Bo Tree is known as the tree of enlightenment. Siddhartha Gautama fasted under this tree for 40 days until he found his enlightenment.
  • "Shara Khan": our mascot in the tiger suit literally translates as "tiger man".
