Computational Fluid Dynamics

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is a focus of many research projects of Dr. Mansouri. CFD simulations can accurately predict steady-state and time-dependent complex flows in energetic engineering systems (burners, heat exchangers, turbomachines...etc.). These systems are characterized by complex multi-physics, multi-scales and attendant numerical methods in the disciplines of fluid dynamics (i.e. internal and external aerodynamics), thermal science (i.e. heat transfer, combustion) and chemical engineering (i.e. species transport).

Sophisticated CFD softwares are used with emphasis on ANSYS CFD products (Fluent and CFX) with attendant pre/post treatment tools (Spaceclaim, DesignModeler, Gambit, Meshing, TurboGrid, ICEM, CFD-Post). Other CFD softwares are also used, depending on the client/sponsor needs or software availability (i.e. Catia, NX, OpenFoam, AutoGrid, Hexpress, Tecplot).

Multi-fidelity turbulence methods (RANS, URANS, SAS, hybrid RANS/LES) are applied in the design process or exploration for the majority of research projects.
