11th Grade AP English
Your summer reading assignment is due on the first day of school in the fall of 2022. Even if you are scheduled for English in the spring, your assignment is due on the first day of the fall semester. If you have questions, please contact Ms. Barnes (barnesa3@gcsnc.com)..
Some recommended books for this project are listed at the bottom of the page. You are not limited to this list; these are just ideas if you don't know where to start.
Suggested Books for This Project
You do not have to pick one of these books; these are just examples of the kinds of books that will work for this project. You can go to Google and search "best essay collections" to get more ideas. Use the following guidelines when selecting your book to make sure you've picked something that will work for the assignment.:
It must be nonfiction.
It must be a collection of essays--meaning small works that stand independently--rather than one long nonfiction work. This means that each "chapter" (or essay) might deal with a different topic or idea, although the book as a whole might be organized around a common theme.
All the essays in the book must be written by the same author.
The collection must have 6 or more essays in it.
All of the books below meet these guidelines.
If you choose to read from an ebook for this project, you will need to figure out how to get printed copies of the pages you read so that you can annotate. This might include making copies at the public library using their book or exporting your annotations from your e-reading app. Audiobooks are NOT recommended for this assignment, since you will have a more difficult time identifying the author's language choices if you aren't seeing them on paper.
