We have big plans for the future, so stay tuned!
Paint.Net (or another editor, however I cannot guarantee this will work with other editors) , DXTBMP, RSBinTool, TS Tools OR RWTools
Navigate to your Train Simulator directory, and then to the train you want to reskin. Copy the "Default" Folder and rename it to the name of you reskin. If there is no "Default" Folder, then one of the liveries that came with the train originally (Non third-party reskins) will do. find the ".bin" folder for the train (Not the door or wiper ".bin" files) Open it in TSTools/RWTools and move on to step two.
In this .bin file you will find the name of the livery of the base train you are using to reskin - Change this and then a few lines further down change the name of the train in the "English" part and if the name is replicated in the other languages, change those too. Next you will need to do Ctrl+F and enter "Geo" In the find section. You then need to change the location of this, and the "CollisionGeometryID" on the line below to the folder you just created. Now click File, Save it and then check that there is a Bak file that has now appeared. If the Bak file has appeared, close the RWTools/TSTools window. If it hasn't, try saving it again. If this still doesn't work, ask around on the forums (UKTS, DTG Forums Etc.)
You can now proceed to the next station, Step Three.
You now need to go to the folder that you just saved your modified .bin file in an click on "Engine", then you need to click on "Textures" which we will now discuss below, before continuing with step three.
Having looked at the "Textures" folder in more detail, we can now begin to get towards reskinning the train or as you may prefer it,"The enjoyable but hugely fiddly bit". However, before that it is time to open the file with the main "body" of the train in it. It is often called "Main1", however, depending on the train this can change. Open it in DXTBMP and set Paint.net as your editor. note what type of DDS (Direct Draw Surface) it is at the top of the page where the filename is located. (Eg: DXT1, DXT4,DXT3). Then click on "Image", "send to editor" and create your masterpiece before shunting forwards to step four.
Having edited and saved your reskin, go back to DXTBMP and open it. You now need to click on, "File", Then click "Save" and "Save As DDS". Make sure to save it as the same DDS type as the one you just opened and modified in DXTBMP. Open RSBinTool and open the same file (.TGPCDX)you opened in Step Three in DXTBMP. Then click on "DDSTool" and "Import DDS Data" before selecting the reskin you just made and saved in DXTBMP. Having done this, you need to save the .TGPCDX in RSBinTool. You may now close RSBinTool and launch RailWorks/Train Simulator.
You need to now go into the consist creator and find your train before loading it up on a route and testing it. If you need to fine tune it, repeat steps three to five as much as you need.
