1968 Jaguar S-Type

Introduction to KNC 913F:

The video and pictures below are from the people I bought her from as advertised. She had been polished up to look as good as possible but not all was well underneath.

Jaguar 3.4 S KNC 913F description:

KNC 913F was registered on 19th April 1968 making it one of the 909 S-Types built in 1968, the last year of manufacture. It has always been British Racing Green with a black ambla (vinyl) interior. It was built with the desirable option of power steering and is 'matching numbers' having its original engine and gearbox. Mr Jeremy Yates who owned the car for 36 years from 1973 until 2009 did a few modifications to make it more reliable and some significant rebuilds which included:

• Upgraded brake calipers fitted from an XJ Series 1.

• Modifications to the brake vacuum system to avoid loss of vacuum and brake booster/servo failure he experienced on a mk2 Jaguar.

• Fitment of a plumbed-in oil pressure gauge (due to inaccuracy of the reading and sender from the original Smiths gauge).

• Fitment of chrome wire wheels

• Fitment of a Webasto roof

• Complete engine and gearbox rebuild in 1995 at 76,333 miles costing £4500. The engine and gearbox do not leak and run well now at just under 94,000 miles

• Significant rust repair and respray in 2004 costing £4679.97.

Saturday 28th January 2017

Collection day! I have borrowed a Discovery from a colleague for the weekend so set off to pick up the trailer at 9.am. The car was one and half hours away in Hemel Hempstead to pick up the car was easy enough. Fortunately the sun had come out by the time I arrived! The engine was difficult to start (a starter choke issue I have to tackle later) but ran nicely eventually. I was only able to do a brief drive at maneuvering speeds but there were no worrying noises. I also got the car over a pit so I could have a close look underneath. Looks like a lot of work but achievable.

October 2017

I have had to move the car to a new home as the farm with the barn I had been keeping it in is being sold.

January - April 2018

Front suspension and steering rebuild is underway. Have a look at the front suspension page for details...

August 2018

A move to a new home in my new workshop with light, power and a ramp. This has allowed me to start working on the bodywork as well as giving the engine a thorough service with new HT leads and carburettor strip and rebuild and engine bay clean and repaint.

November-December 2018

Carburettor rebuild and engine bay clean up.

January-May 2019

With the carburettors rebuilt, the engine bay significantly more clean and tidy and the engine up and running again, it's too cold to be working on the body at the moment without a heated workshop so I'm going to strip and rebuild the rear suspension.

Summer 2019

Now the car is back on its wheels and we're into the summer, it is time to prepare the bodywork for spraying.

October 2019-Spring 2020

Over the winter I have been focusing on the Webasto roof and interior refubishment ready for when the exterior is resprayed.

April 2020

Engine service and engine bay clean and repaint continues..

August-September 2020

Exterior respray in 2 pack dark British Racing Green.

October-December 2020

Exterior re-fit; windscreens, door glass, handles and latches and chrome.
