Seattle is an international metropolis located in the northwest coastal area in the State of Washington of the United States, north to Canada's Western Pacific Ocean, facing mainland China across the sea. Surrounded by mountains and sea, Seattle is rated one of the most livable and entrepreneurial cities in the United States. Many corporates with international influence headquartered here, including the well-known high-tech companies such as Microsoft and Amazon, and giants in other industries: Starbucks, Boeing, Costco, Alaska Airlines, Reuters, Tableau, Zillow, the Gates Foundation, Expedia, T-Mobile, AT&T Wireless, etc. At the same time, Seattle's unique environment for living and business also attracts people with different backgrounds to work, study and live here. The fusion of multicultural backgrounds brings vitality and vigor to the city. Seattle is not only the foreland of world's technology, but also a harbor for social activities such as leisure and sports events. Like other cosmopolitan cities, there are also a group of intelligent HUST alumni who contribute constantly to the community, stand out in their industries, create social wealth, and constantly seek opportunities for growth and innovation.
The good old days spent studying under Mt. Yujia draws them together emotionally, hoping that all alumni could reunite and relive the good old times. There are a few alumni associations in the Greater Seattle area under HUST’s sister colleges, but the organization for our alma mater has not established, despite the large number of our alumni in this area.
In order to enhance the communication between alumni, re-discover the friendship, and provide a platform for information exchange and resource sharing, our alumni started to plan for the HUST Alumni Association. In 2017, we established a WeChat group with more than 300 alumni, and began to organize small-scale gatherings.
In the spirit that "alumni are relatives without blood relationship. The Alumni Association is family and home to all alumni”, HUST Seattle Alumni Association was established in December 2018 and registered as a 501(c)3 organization. We are committed to serving the local alumni, building connections, promoting cooperation, and organizing diverse activities like picnics, outings, concerts, symposia, entrepreneurial group study, etc. Your participation, response and contribution are warmly welcomed. Currently, we have about 500 members in the Great Seattle Area.
The Board of Huazhong University of Science and Technology Alumni Association of Seattle consists of 20 directors who co-own and manage the NPO together. The majority of directors are HUSTers resided in the Great Seattle Area.
On 1/23/2020, just after the novel coronavirus outbreak, almost all the directors decided to try our best to support the people in Hubei Province where our alma mater located. Click here to learn more about how you can join us fighting with the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak.
