About Us

Who we are?

For example, I'm Sven Karsten, a Russian from Germany and a "Droodist" for ten years. In 2011 I started this website to collect and share all the information about Drood. First of all, I created a place where I could publish my own theories and solutions. But I am also pleased to publish the studies of another modern Droodist - without criticism and with the most polite and cautious attitude.

Practice shows that there are two large schools for studying the Mystery of Edwin Drood: English and Russian. I believe this is due to the fact that only in these two languages were films based on this Dickens novel. The English school of studying Drood is 150 years old; the Russian school is much younger. I want to believe that in the formation of the Russian school there is a part of my work.

A small but creative group of fans of Dickens' latest novel has gathered on this web space. Together we try to solve the enigma of the novel and find (each in his own way) the "holy grail" of literary criticism: a logical, interesting and inspiring ending of the novel, and exactly this ending that Dickens himself wanted to make.

Of course, in such a case, we must sometimes play the role of amateur detectives. I think that each of us believes that not a single crime (even fictitious and literary) should remain without investigation and conviction of the criminal. First of all, we want to find Edwin Drood, dead or alive. We want to free all innocent from suspicion. We want to find all the evidence that Dickens left for us and bring the matter to the Court of History. Until the "Drood case" is completed and closed, not a single Droodist can consider himself satisfied.

The ingenious writer conceived this riddle 150 years ago. He wanted to both entertain us and teach us how to be better. Unfortunately, he took the decision with him to the grave. But we can try to find a solution on our own and become exactly what Dickens called us to be - more humane and kind. I invite you to join our investigation and our "journey".
