About the logo

The green colour of "BIO" stands for the sustainability of biochar application, i.e. where target Ecosystem Services are improved without causing deteriorations to other ecosystem services.

The blue colour of "CHAR" stands for the improvements in the soil sponge function that we aim to achieve with biochar. This includes soil water retention, infiltration capacity, soil structure, erosion, runoff, water balance, etc.

The black colour of the "C" stands for carbon sequestration, and the brown colour of the "L" for soil health. This includes soil organic matter fractionations, GHG fluxes, and C footprinting.

The remaining letters - "O, O, G, Y" - symbolise key ecological aspects that we study to ensure sustainability and promote ecosystem restoration, i.e. vegetation, flowers, pollinators, key soil organisms, etc. This includes vegetation development, species composition, plant physiology, flower traits, pollinator visits and ground nesting activity, etc.
