Moonlight Graham Society

Celebrates the extremely short minor league careers of its members

and rejoices in telling the creative pursuit of a life’s dream

At the November 2, 2019 meeting of the Boston Chapter of the Society of American Baseball Research, John Choe explains the calculus required in the batter's box to prepare for a minor league fastball.  Wearing their minor league team team jerseys, Dave Gilbertson, Evan Katz and John shared their stories of pursuing their dream to play professional baseball and the formation of the Moonlight Graham Society.

Our Inspiration

If you love baseball, it will love you back.

As young kids we dreamed of playing professional baseball.  As adults, we realized how rarely this dream comes true.  We wondered if we could pursue our dream, despite our age and skill level.

We knew professional baseball is a high stakes, competitive business. It is filled with highly motivated and talented players, and operated by passionate, dedicated executives.  Would we be able to convince a minor league team to let us play?

Thankfully we shared with pro baseball the prime player qualification --- our love of the game.  That shared bond created the opportunity of a lifetime and allowed each of us to live our dream.
