2021 LOCKDOWN GALLERY

As our fantastic students return to remote learning, they continue to demonstrate the virtues of pride, ambition and resilience with their work.

We proudly add to our 'Lockdown Gallery' to share and showcase their creativity.

An exciting opportunity for our Howard School KS3 artists…

Riverside Art Competition!

The River Medway is our landscape art inspiration.

We are initially developing skills and ideas by investigating the style of other artists' landscape work, starting with one of the most influential figures in the history of art

Van Gogh.

Semiabstract Riverside art exploring stylized patterns and doodles.

HOW TO MAKE ART USING MATERIALS AT HOME BRUSHES

The After School Challenge #1  Draw a 60-second self-portrait!

Many students and staff rose to the fun, creative challenge. Can you guess who we are?
Practising quick drawing brings life to Art! It warms up your eye and arm whilst keeping that part of your brain with the pre-conceptions in check. You can then bring that energy into more sustained tasks

'Lockdown' enables us to slow down and look at the world around us from a different perspective: noticing objects anew.

Here we went looking for letters in Photography.

We are making good use our time by stepping up our drawing skills!

Drawing is a calming activity for many: great for our mental health during the lockdown.

Look out for each other in Lockdown!

Our abstract Photography finds us looking for the light!

A selection of our feather drawings: each one is unique and successful in different ways... just like us!

Winners of the 'House Art Competition' - students were asked to design a shield for our Attenborough, Pankhurst, Hawking, Turing and Tull Houses.

Each winning student's work earned 10 Championship points for their house!

Still Home - Still Life

The perfect Art & Photography genre whilst working from home!

Conceptual artist, Michael Craig-Martin, is often called the godfather of the 'Young British Artists'. His work was a great source of inspiration for our 'objects at home' Art!

We kept creative at Christmas whilst working at home - our abstract evergreen trees!

2020 LOCKDOWN GALLERY

Around the world, the history of our present moment is taking shape in personal journals.

Our Art students in years 7, 8 and 9 were set the challenge to keep
an art journal whilst working at home during 'lockdown'.

Here we share some examples of their creative collages, drawings, designs and doodles!

Some students chose to express their thoughts and feelings whilst others
represented their 'lockdown' experiences, interests and activities.

Some students simply enjoyed being creative as a way to relax and spend time positively.

Our photography students have also been recording their lockdown life and have been creating extraordinary images from everyday objects.

We are very proud of all of our students who have been resilient whilst working at home.

We have been keeping bright and positive with the colours of the rainbow as a symbol of hope.

Amidst the sad and sombre news as the country locked down, some rays of joy were documented...

We celebrated our NHS and a hero, Captain Sir Thomas Moore.

Our healing planet has also been a welcome result.

We've been looking and longing out of our windows whilst enjoying our creature comforts!

We have been missing our family and friends but know that 'We'll meet again'!

Some of us paid tribute to the service and sacrifice of people past as we celebrated the 75th VE day.

Just as in times of war, we are keeping kind and lending a helping hand throughout the pandemic.

We have been exploring the elements of art: tone, colour and pattern.

We have discovered that ordinary objects can appear extraordinary in photography!

We've been enjoying nature and appreciating Springtime: drawing on its inspiration for art.

We've created  portraits of ourselves and our pets who have consoled us when we have been sad.

'Music is the medicine of the mind'. Lots of us have found music a comfort during lockdown!

We've been working cross-curricular:

designing costumes, hair and make-up for drama.

connecting art and science with our invention drawings.

'Ordinary to Extraordinary Objects' has been our photography theme.

We've explored still life, flat lay and mirror repeat processes.

These are examples of our Zentangles.

Creating Zentangle patterns is a relaxing process. Some people use it as a way to keep calm: especially useful during difficult times such as lockdown!

Success isn't always about greatness. It's about consistency.

Consistent hard work leads to success. Greatness will come.
