Community Solution

After a full year of analysis, community discussion, reviewing design options and comparing costs – the School Building Committee (SBC), voted unanimously to recommend the Twin School model on the Stanley site to solve Swampscott’s Elementary School dilemma. The resulting facility will be a twin school, one school for K-2, with the capacity for 525 students and a second 3-4 school educating up to 375 students. Beyond the obvious financial benefits, adjacent Lower School (K-2) and Upper school (3-4) allows for smaller student populations desired for a safe and welcoming “neighborhood” feel. Each School will have its own Entry, Administration, Faculty and Support space. However, by sharing the Cafeteria/Kitchen, Gymnasium and services, the footprint is much smaller and the facility simpler to operate. This central Community area will also be available to Swampscott residents for athletics, meetings and events.
