Conflict Resolution

Kelso's Choices

Kelso’s Choices is a conflict resolution curriculum that is taught to CFES students. Students learn about the wheel of 9 choices to help solve small problems. A small problem is a problem you are smart enough and strong enough to handle on your own. When a student has a small problem, they try 2 of Kelso’s Choices!

If the problem continues, it might become a BIG problem. Then, they ask an adult for help.

If a student can answer "Yes" to the following questions, then it is a
BIG problem.

    1. Is someone in danger?

    2. Is someone being hurt?

For BIG problems, a student needs to tell a trusted adult right away.

When a student has a small problem, adults can help empower them by asking the student, “Have you tried 2 of Kelso’s Choices?” This will help students become independent and solve their own small problems. Students also learn when it’s appropriate to ask an adult for help. By teaching students the skills needed to resolve their own problems, they are empowered with valuable tools they need in life!
