Raptorial Rockroot

The raptorial rockroot is a descendant of the hiddenwood that grows on sogland boulders, high above the reach of thorngrazers. This plant has a wide range over the Serinarctan continent, but within it can survive in only a very limited habitat - it occurs only upon cracks in glacial erratics, large boulders left isolated on the open landscape by the Mid-Ultimocene ice age. Where it lives, these are the only places out of reach of grazing animals which would otherwise destroy them, and so this is where its host ants plant its seedlings. This is not unique to this species, for many trees and plants find shelter on these rocks, usually on their upper surfaces in small crannies that collect detritus and a small amount of soil. The raptorial rockroot however only makes it home on the steepest, most vertical, and most precarious perches where little to no organic matter can accumulate from which it can find nutrition - and so to survive, it has had to commission fierce, mobile hunters to collect food from further away: hunting parties of stinging ants.
