PhD Opening in Computational Geomechanics

Dr. Song is recruiting talented Ph.D. students who will work on the broad area of theoretical and computational saturated and unsaturated geomechanics/poromechanics and geotechnical/civil engineering. The applications include, but not limited to, soil-structure interaction, failure mechanism of variably saturated soils under static and dynamic loading, subsurface multiphase flow/contaminant transport, climate change on geotechnical/civil infrastructure, energy, environmental and coastal geotechnics, and geo-hazard engineering.

Basic requirements:

(1) Knowledge of advanced geomechanics/poromechanics/solid mechanics (knowledge of unsaturated soil mechanics is a plus).

(2) Knowledge of advanced scientific computing (e.g., nonlinear FEM, MD, CFD, DEM, and meshfree methods).

(3) Programming skills in C/C++, FORTRAN, Python, etc.

For admission in 2021 with competitive financial support, please submit your official application, and inform Dr. Song (xysong@ufl.edu) when it is complete for a timely review.
