Note: The City of Menlo Park was incorporated in 1927. The local newspaper of record was the Menlo Park Recorder, which began publishing about 1924. By the time it ceased publishing, about 1990, it had used several name variations, the latest being the Meno-Atherton Recorder. The Almanac (formerly The Country Almanac) then became the local newpaper of record.

Note: The author of this article, Clarence A. "Cab" Burley, was the publisher of the Menlo Park Recorder (forerunner of the Menlo-Atherton Recorder). He had just returned from a visit to Galway.

Quotes: 1) "...[Menlo Park] is the first and only American community which has initiated a 'sister city' agreement with one in Ireland." 2) "...C. A. Burley, Menlo Park Recorder publisher, visited Eire last year and initiated the sister city plan with the backing of the Menlo Park council." 3) "...[Menlo Park City Manager John R. Johnson] wanted to make sure that the Galway aldermen had approved the sister city relationship. [Mayor Fintan] Coogan affirmed they had."

School Children Exchange Gift Trees
Note: Students at O'Connor School in Menlo Park and the Dominican Convent in Galway City exchanged gift trees. In a ceremony at O'Connor School, an elm was planted on Friday, March 15, 1963 (St. Patrick's day was March 17th as always). See also Documents 1140, 1141.
