TOWN OF ETNA

 

GENERAL ASSISTANCE

 

The Town of Etna, Maine administers a General Assistance Program for the support of the poor pursuant to Title 22, MRSA 4305.

 

The Municipal Officials have adopted an ordinance establishing that program. A copy of that ordinance is available for public inspection at the Town Office. Also available for inspection is a copy of the State of Maine’s General Assistance Statutes as copies of the State of Maine Laws are made available to the municipality by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

 

Persons who need to apply for General Assistance may do so by obtaining an application from the Town Office during regular business hours, which are:

TUESDAY         9 AM – 4PM

WEDNESDAY  9 AM -  4 PM  

THURSDAY      11 AM – 7 PM

FRIDAY                 9 AM – 3 PM

 

Applicants may call 269-3551 to have an application mailed to them or to schedule an appointment to review their completed application with the General Assistance Administrator.

 

Appointments are available each week.  Please bring your completed application and all necessary income and expense documentation with you to the appointment. The General Assistance Administrator will issue a decision regarding eligibility to all applicants within 24 hours of receiving an application.

 

In an emergency, an applicant may call the Penobscot County Sheriff Office at 207-945-4636. If emergency assistance is given, applicant is required to return to the town office to complete a full application to determine eligibility.
