Griesbach Regatta Results 2012

Post date: Jul 29, 2012 11:58:35 PM

The races started promptly at 1:30pm, Saturday, July 28th under cloudy skies with a light south wind. During the second race, the wind shifted to the east. During the starting sequence for the third race, thunder was heard and the start was cancelled. When the thunder abated, so did the wind. A vote was taken and it was decided to declare the regatta complete with only two races. During the picnic afterwards, a nice southerly kicked in, but it was a portent of the rain that followed shortly. Prizes were awarded with all competitors passing up the bottles of wine for cans of genuine Quebec maple syrup.

Tom (with Jim crewing) took first place, winning both races handily. Gary Orkney skippered the club Rhodes, with crew members Sally Sharp, Nancy Cloud & Don. Third place was taken by Andre Bakker, with his wife Mary and son Pascal. Chris Ross took 4th place, assisted by Liz in the Hobie 16. David Beaufait and Phil Rentz came in 5th in the Red Baron, followed by Steve Kovacs and Harry in the Green Hornet. Eric Richardson and crew weren't able to make it for the first start, and with so few races, we unfortunately could not have a throwout.

Many thanks to all who participated - it was great to have so many boats out on a day that was far from ideal. Thanks to Betty Ann Heistad who was in charge of the grill, Sally for helping organize the races, Bruce Adams for helping set the course, and everyone who brought such great food to the potluck.
