Finish to another great season of sailing!

Post date: Nov 1, 2016 10:23:59 PM

Thanks to the many members who came for our end-of-the-season cold and rainy work day to close the club for the season. We finished in record time at 11am. Special thanks to team leaders Sally Sharp, Andre Burnin, and Joe Gasparik, as well as to Betty Ann Heistad, Kate McMullan, and Bill MacEachern for providing lunch.

The following evening we had a great end-of-season banquet at Mickey's Roadside Cafe by a great waitress who was definitely in the Halloween spirit. It as an opportune moment to acknowledge the many contributions by many of our club members over the course of the season. Betty Ann Heistad and Kate McMullan are always there to make sure the grill is running smoothly for Club events, and Bill MacEachern's Brasilian Pork and black bean stew is well...pretty amazing. Betty Ann and Kate also coordinate the Club's program for area youth, with help from instructors such as Sally Sharp, Steve Kovacs, with assistance from Gary Orkney in the Whaler. Our moorings crew always had their hands full with the least glamorous aspect of a sailing club, namely, inspecting and repairing moorings underwater. Special thanks to our sub-marine members: Phillip Glouchevitch, Joe Gasparik, Jay Whitehair, and Jason Osborne. Our participation in Enfield's Old Home Days included parade duty from Gary Orkney & Sally Sharp, who also were volunteer skippers in the Community Sail day along with Steve Kovacs and Richard Balagur. We also had great contributions from Reg Jones, Sally Sharp, and Dave Beaufait in the planning and execution of the Mascoma Lakeside Park, complete with a refurbished non-motorized boat launch, thanks in part to funding by the Club. Tom Blodgett made us a wonderful new oarbox, and Reg donated his Walker dinghy to the Club for use by members. A number of members also contributed money to the club which was greatly appreciated. Martha Nelson is active in the Mascoma Lake Association, which does such great work controlling Eurasian Millfoil on the Lake. Thanks especially to the Town of Enfield for allowing to Club to operate out of the Lakeside Park location. Our partnership with the Town of Enfield and the the Rail Trail Association helps fund the porta-potty at the far end of the parking lot. I know I have probably missed some people to thank, but do know that you have my thanks and that you all help make sailing affordable and accessible to the local community through your membership fees and participation in the life of the Club. Thank you all, and see you in the Spring!
