Programme 2018

At evening sessions we work on a topic - each member writing a piece.  Members read out their work (if they wish) and then we discuss each other's contributions in a positive manner. Occasionally we have evenings where material is prepared in advance, allowing us to share longer pieces.

18 January

WORKSHOP: Walk the Walk: Describe a walk you know well (walk to work/shop/in the park/pub etc.) from the point of view of…..?  You will find out on the night!

15 February

PREPARE BEFOREHAND

CRITICS NIGHT: Dream, Dream, Dream: Your starter for a piece - you wake up from a very vivid dream and realise that something is different

15 March

WORKSHOP: The First Cut is the Hardest: Bring a story you have written and on the night be prepared to do some editing!

19 April

A.G.M. 7.00-8.00pm

WORKSHOP: from 8.00pm. Words: You will be supplied with some obscure words and try to write some new definitions for them. (Julie to bring words)

17 May

WORKSHOP: Wisdom: Imagine or recall one thing a grandparent taught you how to do and write a letter to your grandchild (great niece or nephew) passing on that skill.

21 June

WORKSHOP: Voyages of Discovery: Exploring the theme of this year's Royston Arts Festival.

12 July

SOCIAL EVENING

19 July

WORKSHOP: Horrid Histories: You find a diary of an historical figure and you discover that the history books have it all wrong! Write down what you found and how it differs from the accepted history

20 September

WORKSHOP: Murder Most Foul: Describing the same murder scene from several different viewpoints. (supplied on the night)

CRITICS NIGHT: Story time: Write a piece based on one of the following ideas:

WORKSHOP: Body Parts: You will choose from a selection of magazine pictures of body parts and then describe them, afterwards reveal picture and find out if it is what we all imagined. ( Julie to bring pictures)

CHRISTMAS SOCIAL EVENING

WORKSHOP: Bookworm’s First Lines: Bring a random book from home (any type of book). You will be using a line from a page (given on the night) in that book as the start of a new story, extra points for one with a seasonal flavour!
