Penn Mar Club History

A Brief History

The by-laws for the Penn Mar Dance Club were adopted on July 8, 1985. The maximum membership was 55 couples, and there was a waiting list for potential members.

The first dance season ran from September 7, 1985, through May 3, 1986, and included nine dances. The first dance was held at the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Waynesboro from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. We Three Trio was the band.

For a number of seasons, dances were held at various locations, wherever there was a room large enough to accommodate the dances.

Beginning with the 1991-1992 dance season, all dances were held at the Waynesboro American Legion, with the exception of two dinner dances, which were held at the Elks Club in Waynesboro.

Beginning with the January 1994 dance, the American Legion began serving sandwiches and salads prior to the dances. Dinners were served prior to dances beginning in the 1998-1999 dance season. In the 2004-2005 dance season, the dinners were moved from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with dancing was from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.

In November, 2015, the Club moved from the Waynesboro America Legion to the Waynesboro Knights of Columbus and dinners were eliminated. Dances continue to run from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.
