In Memoriam

Martin "Marty" Edge died at the age of 18 in a car wreck on February 18, 1964. He was a senior at Owensboro Catholic High School at the time and had a bright future ahead of him. The Class of 1964 was very sad at his passing. [See Obituary below]

Joseph Coomes - There is a notice in the Messenger Inquirer dated October 3, 1967 that a Joseph Anthony Coomes died in Vietnam at the age of 21.

Greg Oberst was born on March 6, 1946 and died March 29, 2012. He was a resident of Auburn, Kansas at the time of his passing and was survived by his wife Rosie. The funeral service was April 4, 2012 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton, KS. Burial followed at the Holton Cemetery.

Barbara Murray Dillow was born on September 11, 1946 and died April 6, 2002 in Mayfield Heights, OH. She was survived by daughters, Alecia Hayes and Andrea Pritchard, and a sister, Marylin Grace. Another daughter preceded her in death. She is buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN.

Curtis Tichenor Crabtree was born March 13, 1946 and died June 3, 2012. He was the son of Herman Troy and Christine Elizabeth Bivens Crabtree. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Curtis is survived his sons, Bryan (Lori) Crabtree and Troy (Rita) Crabtree both of Owensboro; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren,; and his siblings, Alberta Allgood of Panther, Angela Gentry and Pat Pryor of Owensboro and Jimmy Crabtree of Beaver Dam. Curtis is buried at Resurrection Cemetery in Daviess County, KY.

John Mark Medley. There is a notice about John M. Medley in the Messenger Inquirer newspaper dated January 26, 1984 that mentioned he died at the age of 37 in Owensboro, KY.

Eugene Thomas. There is a notice dated July 4, 1970 in the Messenger Inquirer that a Marion Eugene Thomas died at the age of 23. He was the son of Jesse Joseph Thomas (1901-1975) and Pearl Marie Hancock Thomas (1903-1998). His birthdate was May 31, 1946 and he died on July 2, 1970. He is buried at Saint Augustine Cemetery in Reed, KY.

Barbara Saltsman Mauzy Hinton died October 22, 1998 in Owensboro at the age of 52. She was the daughter of Red and Katherine Sauer Saltsman who owned Reds in Sorgho, KY. She left a son, Tommy, a daughter, April Glass, and a sister, Kathy Blandford. She is buried at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Daviess County, KY.

Thomas Martin Mullican died December 12, 1998 in Owensboro, KY. at the age of 52. He was the son of Joe & Lois Mullican. He was survived by son, Eric Mullican, and daughter, Valerie Holtzman. He had been married to Paula Powell. Both he and Paula had been graduates of Owensboro Catholic High School Class of 1964. Tommy is buried at Saint Peter Cemetery in Stanley, KY.

Lawrence Eugene Hill died July 23, 1993 at the age of 47. He was the son of Rita and Martin M. Hill, Jr. (d. 1989). He was survived by a son, John Andrew Hill;, his mother, and brothers, Barry Allen & T. Michael Hill. His father and brother, James Martin Hill (d. 1956) preceded him in death. Larry was buried at Resurrection Cemetery in Daviess County, KY.

Victoria Jean Fleischman Head died October 14, 1990 at the age of 44. She was survived by her husband, James E. Head, and daughter, Anita Kaye Head. She is buried at Saint Anthony Cemetery in Browns Valley, KY.

Robert Stirman Clark died July 30, 1995 at the age of 49. He was born and died in Daviess County, KY. and was the son of R.A. & Elsie Clark. He was also a Vietnam Veteran. He was survived by his wife, Milly Nall Clark and son, Robbie Clark. Bobby was buried at Resurrection Cemetery in Daviess County, KY.

Sam Allen Mason III- There is a notice in the Messenger Inquirer dated November 22, 1987 that Sam Allen Mason died at the age of 41 in Owensboro, KY. He had been in the Owensboro Catholic High Class of 1964 through his Junior year and graduated in 1965.

Marie Byrne Mcleod died November 8, 2000 in Owensboro, KY. at the age of 55. She was survived by companion, Carroll Ward, son: Byron K. McLeod, daughter, Dawn M. McLeod, 1 grandchild, brothers Louis A., Stephen I., & Martin P. Byrne, sisters Sister Mary Ignatius Byrne, Mildred B. Dockemeyer, Martha M. Pendleton, Stella F. Kaelin, Lena Rose Medley, and Connie E. McKay. Marie was buried at Saint Augustine Cemetery, Reed, KY. in Henderson County.

Thomas Drury Zoglman [sic] died August 5, 2002 at the age of 56. He was survived by his wife Martha E. Terry Zoglmann [sic], daughters Cheryl Peters, Melissa Hagan, Terri Fitzgerald, and Christy Fulkerson, 5 grandchildren, brothers Joe & Gene Barr Zoglemann [sic], and a sister Anna Faye Montgomery. Tom is buried at Saint Alphonsus Cemetery, Daviess County, KY.

Judy Pierce Arnold died November 9, 2008 in Owensboro, KY. Her husband, Al, preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 2007. They had been the owners of Arnold's Jewelry Store. Her parents were Buddy and Ellen Pierce of Owensboro. She was survived by two daughters, Candy Oakes of Owensboro and Dr. Cynthia Friedrichs of Beaverton, OR.

Steven Mark Coomes died December 15, 1993 at the age of 43 in Athens, GA. He was the son of Sylvester and Lillian Wathen Coomes of Owensboro, KY. Steve graduated from Brescia College with a Masters in French. He was survived by his mother, brother Paul R. Coomes, and sisters Doris Coomes and Jacqueline Anderson. Steve is buried in Saint Lawrence Cemetery, Daviess County, KY.

John R. Galloway died August 11, 1995 in Louisville, KY. at the age of 51. John was in the Army and served in Vietnam. He was survived by his wife, Mayrene M. Galloway, a son, Chad Galloway, a daughter, Dana Galloway; and his mother, Helen Galloway, as well as many brothers and sisters. John is buried at Resurrection Cemetery, Daviess County, KY.

Linda Schweikarth Clark was born March 11, 1946 in Owensboro, KY and died August 8, 2009 in Louisville, KY. She was the daughter of Joseph "J.C." and Mary Lucille Johnson Schweikarth. She was survived by her husband of 37 years, Phil Clark, and sons Dr. Aaron Clark, Travis Clark, Courtney Clark and Tyler Clark, all of Owensboro. Linda is buried at Saint Mary Magdalene Cemetery in Sorgho, KY.

Jerry Alexander March 22, 2003 in Owensboro, KY. He was survived by his wife Ann, sons, John & Mike Alexander, daughter Michelle Alexander Mattingly, 4 grandchildren, mother Agnes Alexander, brother Bill Alexander, and sisters Marsha Ballard and Debbie Masterson.

Walker Lynn Tuttle was born August 22, 1946 in Daviess County, KY. and died March 29, 1991 in Houston, TX at the age of 44. He was survived by his mother, Margaret Jessica Heppler Tuttle Coomes Ruley, brothers Kenneth & Steve Tuttle, and Kevin & Mark Coomes, and sisters Dalarna Breetz, Sharon Hermann 1936-2004, and Camilla Frey. His father was Walker Louis Tuttle 1913-1955.

Becky Goetz McBrayer died February 5, 1993 in Louisville, KY at the age of 47. She was the daughter of Martiene and John Goetz Sr. She was survived by her husband William A. McBrayer, her mother, brothers John Goetz Jr., David Goetz, and Richard Goetz, and sisters Brenda Bean, Sandy Lanham and Kimberly Mills. Becky is buried in Saint William Cemetery, Knottsville, KY in Daviess County.

Thomas Frederick "Fred" Drury was born May 6, 1945 and died September 12, 2004 in Owensboro, Ky. He was the son of Archie Joseph Drury Sr. and Margaret Genevive Stuart. He was survived by a son, Thomas Cain Drury of Owensboro, a daughter, Heather Drury Clemens of Owensboro, and three grandchildren, Mary Keaton and Cecilia and Nicholas Clemens, all of Owensboro. He had been married to Janet Kuegel - both he and Janet were 1964 graduates of Owensboro Catholic High School. Fred is buried at Saint Peter Cemetery in Stanley, KY.+

Joseph Glenn Wooldridge died January 24, 2008 in Owensboro, KY. He was the son of Joseph Estil and Bea Wooldridge. Glenn was a U.S. Navy veteran of Vietnam. He was survived by his mother and several brothers and sisters. Glenn is buried at Saint Anthony Cemetery in Browns Valley, KY.

Nancy White Taylor was born October 10, 1946 in Daviess County, KY., and died November 10, 2008 in Owensboro, KY at the age of 62. She was survived by her mother, Rose Helen White of Owensboro, a daughter, Melissa Ann Taylor of Thurmont, MD, a son, Paul Franklin Taylor of Cannelton, IN, and a grandchild.

Gerald Montgomery Head was born October 17, 1946 in Sorgho, KY. and died December 26, 2007 in Owensboro, KY. He was the son of George M. and Rose Beyke Head. Gerald served in the Air Force. He was survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol Clouse Head; three children, Gerald M. Head Jr. of Central City, Terrance Clifton Head of Owensboro, and Cassie Head of Sorgho; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gerald is buried at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Daviess County, KY.

Judy Volk Garvin was born January 7, 1946 and died September 13, 2008 in Owensboro, KY. She was survived by her husband of 43 years, Ray Garvin, four sons, Todd Garvin of Lexington, Jeff Garvin of Owensboro, Gary Garvin of Independence and Steve "Turk" Garvin of Menominee, MI., as well as 12 grandchildren. Both Judy and Ray graduated from Owensboro Catholic High Class of 1964. Judy is buried at Resurrection Cemetery in Daviess County, KY.

Robert Preston "Bobby" O'Bryan Jr. was born February 16, 1946 and died February 4, 2007 in Owensboro, KY. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert P. O'Bryan Sr., in July 2004. Bobby was a Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was surived by his wife of 36 years, Mary Lou Keller O'Bryan, his son, Matthew L. O'Bryan, his daughter, Jennifer O'Bryan Thompson, and a granddaughter. Bobby is buried at Resurrection Cemetery in Daviess County, KY.

Lloyd William Howard died April 2, 2006 in Whitesville, KY. He was preceded in death by his mother, Flossie Vincent Howard Reisz. His father is William K. "Bill" Howard of Whitesville. He was survived by wife, Frankie Howard, six children, and 20 grandchildren.

Sarah Head Brumley was born October 8, 1945 and died July 5, 2010. She was the daughter of Clarence Gabriel Head and Mary Roxie Hardy Head. She was survived by her husband of 44 years, Michael Gene Brumley, children, Suzanne Bickett of Calhoun, Joseph Michael Brumley of Rockport, IN., Jennifer Bickett of Utica, nine grandchildren and numerous siblings. Sarah is buried at Saint Mary Magdalene Cemetery in Sorgho, KY.

Charles Leo Ebelhar was born April 28, 1946 and died November 13, 2010 in Louisville, KY. He was the son of Edward C. and Margaret Isabell Hayden Ebelhar. Charlie was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was survived by his wife of 40 years, Jeanette O'Bryan Ebelhar, two daughters, Beth Marie Chandler of Mooresville, NC, and Lori Ann Roberts of Owensboro, as well as four grandchildren. Charlie is buried at Resurrection Cemetery, Daviess County, KY.

Leon Quinn was born July 20, 1946 and died January 10, 2002 at the age of 55 in Central City, KY, Muhlenberg County. He is buried at Resurrection Cemetery in Daviess County, KY. He was survived by sons Jason & Clint Quinn, 3 grandchildren, and parents, Lawrence and Clara Quinn.

Gerald Louis "Jerry" Coomes died September 17, 2003 at the age of 57. He is survived by his wife Bonnie Allgood Coomes, daughters Sheri Maines and Sharron Rose Coomes, sons Jeffery, Christopher [Terry] & Bradley Coomes, a brother James W. [Joyce] Coomes Jr. and sisters Doris White and Martha Ann Coomes. Jerry is buried in Saint Vivian Cemetery in Finneytown, OH.

Ron "Ronnie" Horton Sr. was born June 24, 1946 and died May 10, 2010 at age 63 in Owensboro, KY. He was the son of William and Lillie Johnson Horton. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was survived by his wife of 37 years, Kazuko Horton, a son, Ronnie Horton of Port St. Lucie, FL, and three daughters, Theresa Kasinger, Lane and Sonya Johnson, all of Owensboro and two brothers, his twin, Donnie Horton and David Lee Horton, all of Owensboro. Ronnie is buried at Resurrection Cemetery in Daviess County, KY.

Barbara Holder Montgomery of Reynolds Station, Kentucky, died October 10, 2013 at the age of 67. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, J.L. "Jim" Montgomery; and two daughters, Kathy (Daryl) Ball and Cynthia Montgomery; grandchildren Lucia Sao, Samantha Guffey and Tyrell Shack; brothers Richard Holder, Ronald Holder and Tom Holder; and a sister, Marita Bozarth. She is buried at Resurrection Cemetery in Daviess County, Ky.
