Planting Hints and Considerations

Less is More Please keep gardens no more than one foot from the stone. The cemetery equipment needs to have access to grave sites, and while we try to be careful, flowers and decorations will not stand in the way of a burial. Do not plant behind your stone. Generally, lots end at the back of the stone.

Please do not plant bushes. All bushes grow, and need to be trimmed, and a quick look into the older sections will show that once the family members no longer visit, that $20. 'dwarf' bush will quickly engulf and obscure your $1000. headstone. Instead of shrubs (including rose bushes et al) consider hosta or lilies as an alternative.

Avoid using fences or edging. Plastic, wood or stone edging around headstones only means we have to stay futher away with the mower. Better to simply cut an edge with a shovel and use a bark mulch, which we can mow closer to. Please DO NOT use stones or large chunk bark mulch as it can damage the mower blades and become a projectile.

DO NOT use recycled tire mulch in the cemetery please. We sort all compostables out of the trash and do not need this mixed into the compost.

Plants last longest when planted in the ground. Hanging baskets and planter
