Guidance Notes for WW1 Gallipoli Pop up Page
Isle of Wight Contemporary Craft Group, QuayCrafts were commissioned to create a piece of work inspired by the stories of the Isle of Wight Rifles and their role in Gallipoli during the First World War.
Introduction
I chose to make a simple pop up for this project with two pop out layers.
You will need:
Photocopies, scissors, card, glue, paint
- Choose an image and photocopy it. I enlarged mine on a photocopier up to A3 at Staples
- Cut out in card or stiff paper to your desired size, one base and one back and Sellotape together, allowing it to fold.
- Cut out carefully the relevant image from the background. I chose to insert black paper into the space that is left, to emphasize a sense of loss.
- Stick the background image in place.
- Cover the base with another photocopy or simply paint it. I chose to paint my base.
- Stick the cut out images onto separate card then cut this out.
- To make this pop up stand out you will need to add a tab of thin card behind your subject.
- Measure the back of your pop up subject and decide how deep you want your pop up to sit out. You will need to have an allowance of an extra 1 cm for glue at each end of the tab.
- Cut out tab and stick into place.
- You will need to make another tab for the bottom of the cut out, so it sits true. Two tabs in total.
