JamaicaMeCrazy Spring Regatta

From all reports, the 2013 HYC JamaicaMeCrazy Spring Regatta was quite a success! Twelve yachts across three fleets participated in four races over two days. The weather was just about perfect with mild temperatures, no rain, and respectable wind (although it was a little slow filling in on Saturday). Saturday’s course was a more-or-less windward-leeward course, with separate A/B and C fleet windward marks. Since the wind hadn’t clocked yet, we had to run the first race in reverse. With the first race taking so long to complete, the second and third races were shortened to run without the A/B mark.

Sunday’s race had a simple start line set up near Safety Harbor and featured a counterclockwise course around Half Moon Island. Although we found the dead spot off the windward shore of the Island, the fleets generally moved well. Fortunately no one grounded (to my knowledge); although at one point near the cut-through my depth gauge was reading something like 4.7 feet under my boat (which drafts 4.9 feet).

The Awards ceremony on the deck was preceded by Jamaican leftovers and Red Stripe, and awarded these dandy trophies to the three top finishers in each fleet:

The Regatta fleet winners were:

And the overall 2013 HYC JamaicaMeCrazy Spring Regatta winner was ….. Little Wing, skippered by John Gaston (who I believe has won this honor four times)! Congratulations to all of the winners!
