Chia-Ming Chang
Chia-Ming Chang holds a B.S. and M.S. in civil engineering (National Taiwan University, 2002, 2004) and a Ph.D. in civil and environmental engineering (University of Illinois, 2011). He is currently a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at National Taiwan University. He was an assistant research fellow at National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering in 2015, an associate research fellow in the Earthquake Engineering Research and Test Center at Guangzhou University in 2013-2014, and a postdoctoral research associate in the George E. Brown Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES) laboratory at the University of Illinois in 2012-2013.
Dr. Chang has research interests primarily in the areas of structural control, advanced large-scale structural testing, damage detection and health monitoring, earthquake engineering, and structural engineering applications of information technology. His recent research topics include a) passive control strategies with geometric nonlinearity, b) structural health monitoring using advanced optical sensors, c) structural defect detection by the integration of artificial intelligence and images, d) damage detection of structures through IMU sensors, and e) structural performance modification using passive control configuration with inertial force-based devices.
Dr. Chang mentored undergraduate and graduate students and visiting scholars in the areas of structural dynamics, smart structures, structural control, large-scale structural testing, and earthquake engineering. He was also a laboratory instructor and lecturer for the Asia-Pacific Summer School at the University of Illinois in 2009, at National Taiwan University in 2014, and at the University of Illinois in 2015.
