Just Us

Catherine McClements and Scott Burgess in Just Us

Just Us is a telemovie made in 1986, which aired on Channel Seven on August 13 1990 (not sure if it was shown at anytime before that date). It was based on the real life story written by Gabrielle Carey, of the same name. Also starring Scott Burgess, Kim Gyngell and Gina Riley.

Catherine plays Jessica Taylor, a young journalist who goes into Parramatta Jail to do a story on prisons. It is there that she meets long-term prisoner Billy Carter (Scott Burgess), and after a while they establish a rapport, which soon develops into love. This was the first film Catherine did after graduating from NIDA (My Brother Tom and The Right Hand Man were filmed in 1985), and was apparently a little controversial at the time (mostly due to the author of the book on which it is based, and her earlier co-written book Puberty Blues).
