With the next deadline for sending in records to the National Moth Recording Scheme fast approaching, here is news of the latest records from Mark Calway, Dave Wilton and Ricki Bull.

Mark's include the first database record of the micro Psychoides filicivora and the 9th Cypress Pug, plus plenty of new 10km records:

  • 0370: Hornet Moth (Sesia apiformis), Dobbies Garden Centre, Hyde End Road, 17/07/2011; 66 records on database - new for 10km square

  • 0371: Lunar Hornet Moth (Sesia bembeciformis), Finchamstead, 08/07/2010; 8 records on database - good record

  • 0410: Argyresthia brockeella, Finchamstead, 08/07/2010; 96 records on database - new for 10km square

  • 0424: Bird-cherry Ermine (Yponomeuta evonymella), Finchamstead, 08/07/2010; 197 records on database - new for 10km square

  • 1001: Lozotaeniodes formosanus, Finchamstead, 08/07/2010; 92 records on database - new for 10km square

  • 1064: Celypha rosaceana, Finchamstead, 08/07/2010; 12 records on database - good record, new for 10km square

  • 1470: Euzophera pinguis, Shinfield Park, 23/07/2010; 183 records on database - new for 10km square

  • 1479: Indian Meal Moth (Plodia interpunctella), Shinfield Park, 07/02/2011; 25 records on database - good record

  • 1631: December Moth (Poecilocampa populi), Shinfield Park, 18/11/2010; 794 records on database - new for 10km square

  • 1643: Emperor Moth (Saturnia pavonia), Padworth Common, 10/04/2011; 15 records on database - good record

  • 1652: Peach Blossom (Thyatira batis), Finchamstead, 08/07/2010; 323 records on database - new for 10km square

  • 1855: Cypress Pug (Eupithecia phoeniceata), Earley, 03/09/2010; 9 records on database - good record

  • 1978: Pine Hawk-moth (Hyloicus pinastri), Finchamstead, 08/07/2010; 294 records on database - new for 10km square

  • 1998: Poplar Kitten (Furcula bifida), Earley, 31/07/2010; 94 records on database - new for 10km square

  • 2033: Black Arches (Lymantria monacha), Finchamstead, 08/07/2010; 618 records on database - new for 10km square

  • 2127: Triple-spotted Clay (Xestia ditrapezium), Shinfield Park, 23/07/2010; 38 records on database - good record

  • 2185: Lead-coloured Drab (Orthosia populeti), Shinfield Park, 11/03/2011; 128 records on database - new for 10km square

  • 2280: Miller (Acronicta leporina), Finchamstead, 08/07/2010; 327 records on database - new for 10km square

  • 2314: Dingy Shears (Parastichtis ypsillon), Finchamstead, 08/07/2010; 239 records on database - new for 10km square

  • 2368: Crescent (Celaena leucostigma), Beale Park, 25/08/2011; 34 records on database - good record, new for 10km square

  • 2439: Gold Spot (Plusia festucae), Beale Park, 25/08/2011; 32 records on database - good record, new for 10km square

Dave Wilton is another visitor to Berks from Buckinghamshire, and didn't manage many trips to the county this year, but saw some good moths:

• • 0164: Cistus Forester (Adscita geryon), Lambourn: Seven Barrows, 02/06/2010; 3 records on database - good record

  • 0170: Five-spot Burnet (Zygaena trifolii), Sparsholt Firs, 31/05/2011; 13 records on database - good records

  • 1386: Opsibotys fuscalis, Lambourn: Seven Barrows, 02/06/2010; 28 records on database - good record

  • 1638: Fox Moth (Macrothylacia rubi), Greenham Common: Centre (W), 24/07/2004; 33 records on database - good record

  • 2056: Wood Tiger (Parasemia plantaginis), various; 20 records on database - good records

Ricki Bull also found plenty of new 10km records, but the top highlight is undoubtedly Wood Carpet, only the third record on the database for this lovely moth, which seems to be very scarce in the county at the moment, and another current rarity in Garden Dart:

  • 1321: Thisanotia chrysonuchella, Lardon Chase (National Trust), 21/06/2011; 21 records on database - good record

  • 1345: Brown China-mark (Elophila nymphaeata), Boxford, 15/07/2011; 186 records on database - new for 10km square

  • 1350: Beautiful China-mark (Nymphula stagnata), Boxford, 15/07/2011; 38 records on database - new for 10km square

  • 1721: Balsam Carpet (Xanthorhoe biriviata), Boxford, 15/07/2011; 13 records on database - good record, new for 10km square

  • 1739: Wood Carpet (Epirrhoe rivata), Basildon Park, 02/07/2011; 3 records on database - good record, great to know it survives there

  • 1762: Dark Marbled Carpet (Chloroclysta citrata), Boxford, 15/07/2011; 63 records on database - new for 10km square

  • 1860: Green Pug (Pasiphila rectangulata), Boxford, 15/07/2011; 1742 records on database - new for 10km square

  • 2082: Garden Dart (Euxoa nigricans), Earley, 06/08/2011; 73 records on database - good record (confirmed by Norman Hall and other BMG members)

  • 2176: Antler Moth (Cerapteryx graminis), Earley, 23/08/2011; 68 records on database - new for 10km square

  • 2368: Crescent (Celaena leucostigma), Beale Park Workshop yard, 25/08/2011; 35 records on database - good record

  • 2443: Plain Golden Y (Autographa jota), Boxford, 15/07/2011; 517 records on database - new for 10km square

  • 2480: Buttoned Snout (Hypena rostralis), Boxford, 15/07/2011; 88 records on database - new for 10km square
