Berkshire BAP species

Post date: Sep 30, 2014 12:31:48 PM

Recently the local records centre (TVERC) requested an update on the Biodiversity Action Plan species that occur in the modern county of Berkshire (as opposed to the vice-county). The data from the county moth database that I supplied to TVERC can be downloaded here (Excel file - corrected at 4.35pm 30 Sept) - as ever, thanks to everyone who sends in records and thus makes it possible to provide this sort of information.

There are a few species on this list that have not been seen for a very long time and must be considered extinct, such as Brighton Wainscot and Barred Tooth-striped. But there are also a few species that have been recorded in the 21st century but not since 2010, which raises alarm bells with me - are these also going to fall off the county list? These recently missing species are:

  • Dark-barred Twin-spot Carpet Moth (latest record 2010)

  • Flounced Chestnut (2004) - STOP PRESS: Les Finch reports finding "10 specimens of Flounced Chestnut at Snelsmore Country Park on the evening of 28 September" - delighted that this one is still with us!

  • Hedge Rustic (2003)

  • Narrow-bordered Bee Hawk-moth (2007)

  • The Spinach (2010)
