A MUST READ FOR ALL

NEW AND EXISTING KITTEN OWNERS

 FAQ's

As a breeder you tend to get the same questions on a regular basis. To save us both some time

I hope to answer most if not all of your questions here.

One thing I will say clearly is NOT to have expectations of your kitten in the settling in period. One must understand that a new house and new faces can be overwhelming for even the most confident of kittens.

Q. Is it better to get a girl or a boy?

A. This really is a personal choice, both boys and girls make great pets.

Q. Will the kitten get along with our other pets?

A. Cats and kittens have their own individual  likes and dislikes. Our kittens are raised with our German Shepherd and French Bulldogs so tend to be dog tolerant. As for your resident feline, introducing them slowly is always recommended as cats tend to be territorial.

Q. What is the kittens personality like?

British are well know to be all 4 (feet) on the floor which means they are not throw over your shoulder ragdolls (some can be) . In saying that- MOST (not all) of my cats will tolerate being picked up and cuddled but this breed is more of a lap cat as apposed to a cuddly breed. They are great with kids as they do tolerate them and will play with them but it is common that some just dont feel comfortable being picked up. As for personality in a kitten i have always found that kittens settle best in a home away from their siblings where they then start to develope their own individual personality. Whilst most of the time all the kittens are cute and playful, every now and then you will get a kitten that just wants to be left alone. I have had 2 kittens in 10 years that i thought werent suitable for homes with children but their owners insisted they still wanted them. After 5 days in their new homes both these boys were cuddled up on the bed with the kids and became their best friends. The reason i have written this answer is i want prospective new owners to understand that kittens arent defined by their personality at 12 weeks of age.....they grow and adapt with their new families.

Q. Do you always have kittens available?

A. No, kittens are generally born between October to April (in warmer weather)

Q. Can we come and look at your cats?

A. I completely understand the need for people to want to visit my cats before purchasing a kitten. For an array of reasons though, we have chosen to be a closed door cattery. This means we no longer allow visits in the interest of infection control and privacy. Pictures may be provided every few weeks to new owners from the time of deposit through to pick up. This is our private home and we have children so unless you have paid a deposit which identifys who you are you will not be invited into our home.

Every breeder does things differently, there is no right or wrong way..... but there is personal choice. This is what we have decided works best for us and our family, thank you for understanding.

Q. Do we get some sort of written health guarantee with our kitten?

No breeder should advertise their kittens or mislead a kitten buyer into believing they have 100% the healthiest cat/kitten they can purchase...that just isnt possible and is just a ploy to market their kittens as the  best option. What we can do is tell you that all of our foundation cats were genetically tested for disease traits common to the breed . Our kittens come health checked by a certified vet and have spent the first 3 months of their lives in a social environment being fed on premium food. We can not predict any kittens future outcome but we can do everything possible to ensure that we have ruled out the majority of the issues that can occur. Please remember when you purchase an animal, you are purchasing a living creature...not a toy. That means you will at some point have to pay vet bills be it annual check up or if something unexpectedly goes wrong. I, to the best of my ability after being checked by certified vets, will only let kittensgo that have passed their intitial vet checks.

PLEASE EXPLORE PET INSURANCE!!

I can not guarantee that your kitten will not have unforseen issues so please arrange a suitable pet insurance plan that covers most potential issues.

*Dental

*neurological

*infections/viruses.

*Hip/spine/patella

*cancer/lymphoma

 treatments

*ear/eye infections

*palative care

*emergency surgeries

These are just a few suggestions to cross check with a policy ...this is not reflective of cats we have but these things can go wrong, so best to be covered.

Q. Will our kitten be free of communicable disease such as flu, herpes virus and calici  virus.

A. All our kittens are health vet checked and parentage DNA checked for traits common to our breed (eg: DNA detectable PKD)Prior to leaving...at the time of releasing a new kitten we: to the best of our knowledge and ability will have healthy kittens for new owners...HOWEVER, regardless of NEGATIVE PCR testing on cats (which just means they were negative at that point in time of testing) does not conclude that the kitten or cat is completely free of carrying anything. All cats LIKE HUMANS can have an immune system crash! When this happens things like cat flu/herpes and calici virus can become present....whilst this has not been an issue for us WE CAN NOT AND WILL NOT guarantee against this occurring to your kitten. The same principle applies to new born babies, your doctors would never guarantee your child will never get the flu or a virus  as its just not possible. Kittens can be very easily stressed and overstressing in a new environment can bring these issues to surface...therefore  we always recommend to keep your kitten as stress free as possible for the first 2 weeks upon their arrival ESPECIALLY for those families that have young children.

 Q. What will our kitten look like when its older?

I can not and will not guarantee the look of a kitten as an adult. I do get asked this question often and really, it is like asking a midwife how your child will look as an adult....same principle. Also early  desexing DOES NOT alter the outcome of how they will look when they are older, that comes down to genetics! The parents of the kittens are only a guide not a definitive answer as to how they may turn out. Sometimes we are putting 2 lines together that we havent put together before ourselves. Unfortunately we do not have the ability of seeing into the future, but it sure would be nice ☺

 Q. Can I get my holding fee back if I/we can no longer get the kitten/cat?

A. The only time where the NON REFUNDABLE HOLDING FEE will be refunded, is if the sale is cancelled by myself. There is no other exception in which it will be refunded. The holding fee ensures you are comitted to your kitten and also goes towards the vet/ food & general care costs of the kitten. There is plenty of information and time given in order for you to be financially ready for your kitten. If you can not afford a kitten then DO NOT put a holding fee on one... ..most reputable breeders use the non refundable holding fee method as it helps to filter out people who are comitted (which is what we want) from the kittten buyers who are impulsive and waste our time.

WE WILL NOT HOLD ANY KITTEN LONGER THAN AGREED PICK UP

TIME! If we do (via arrangement only) ALL OUTSTANDING MONIES will still be need to be paid at 11 weeks of age for interstate or 12 weeks local pick up.

Q. Do you have a waiting list? Is it long?

A. NO, we no longer use wait lists, they are most often useless. We will just inform people when we are expecting kittens and to email us back at a specific time of a specific month to see what has been born. If your extremely specific

eg: wanting a lilac bi colour female cream bi colour male etc

then your wait can be ALOT longer.

We mainly focus on solid blue

And blue bi colour....occasionally we will get lilac and lilac bi colours.

Q. We want to get 2 kittens but you don't breed the colour of 1 we want, is it ok to get kittens from different breeders?

A. I do not recommend getting multiple kittens from different breeders (my opinion).

The best option would be to get either 2 from the same litter/breeder or every now and then we will retire the mother of a litter once her kittens go and they are looking for new homes. Having a kitten and their mum is also another option.

Q. We are looking for an older cat, do you rehome your mature cats often?

A. We will have matures every now and then looking for forever homes.  We don't really let our girls have more than 3 litters before they retire. They will come with the same inclusions as the kittens do but at a fraction of the cost. We DO NOT give our mature cats away for free.

Cost of a mature cat will vary depending on their age. Sometimes we may have a 12 month old we have decided not to breed from or we may have one of our older girls retiring.

Young adults  (over 18 months) will be around the $1900 mark, where our more mature ladies (4 -6) will be     around the $1000 mark. Please note, prices are only a guide, individual cats will be priced according.

Seniors (over 6)  will bebetween $350_$500 (preferably going to retiries)

Inquiries for mature retired cats are always welcome but we tend to not retire them until the end of Summer

(April/May)

IMPORTANT! we will advetise what matures we will have available on the available page HOWEVER we will not desex them without full payment prior to surgery. If you change your mind and cancel sale on a mature cat, 50% of payment will be retained as a non refundable deposit! Please be mindful of making an impulsive decision to adopt one.
