Taher is an information professional, who synchronizes teaching, learning and practice in his own style. This nourishing background facilitates his working as acquisition & technical services librarian, database searcher, Web developer, Knowledge worker, bibliographer, project manager and certified teacher. His knowledge gained through formal training in Library Science, Cultural Studies, & Computer Sciences (from India, USA and Canada) combines with 25 years expertise in issues related to infostructural development. This experience is manifested in the roles he has played in a) information access applying best practices / competitive intelligence, and b) information management (assisting in extension of the traditional library to Web-based frontiers). Being a good team player, he achieved these ends in a team-based environment facilitating media convergence and in satisfying real-time information needs.

As a volunteer, he has served, at many corporate and non-profit institutions, such as Knowledge Management Associate, Hill & Knowlton, Toronto; Classificationist, Classifile.com; Web associate, SpectraGroups.com, Toronto; etc.

Responsibilities in the professional work include: i) building Web content for a search engine tool, ii) knowledge management in a corporate culture, iii) automating and integrating library database, iv) marketing of library services in a user-friendly environment, and v) in developing Web-based database developmental program.

Teaching and research interests manifests in the following: a) database searching and bibliographic services, b) bibliometrics - quantitative or qualitative studies; c) knowledge management d) area studies librarianship e) Internet based library service or e-reference and f) innovations in teaching methods/Pedagogy. His current professional activism:

    • Guest Editor, Internet Reference Service Quarterly, Haworth Press (USA);
    • Book Review Editor, Information Management Association Journal (USA);
    • Editor / author: Twenty plus books in Library Science and other disciplines; Papers in refereed journals, including Collection Management, Libraries and Culture, End-User Computing, IASLIC Bulletin, Asian Profile, etc.;
    • Contributor: Encyclopaedia of Library & Info. Sci.; and Encyclopedia of Library History
