What is Financial Aid?
Financial aid refers to money that helps you pay for college, university or trade school. Some forms of financial aid however, can only be accessed by completing a financial aid application, such as the FAFSA, AACTUS and/or CSS Profile.
Some types of financial aid include:
Scholarships (do not need to be repaid)
Grants (donot need to be repaid as long as eligiblity is maintained)
Work-study (part-time job on college campus)
Loans (must be repaid with interest usually after you graduate or stop taking classes)
Money earned from a job
Personal savings
Money you received as a gift
College savings plans (e.g. 529 Plans)
What is FAFSA?
FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It is a FREE application that high school seniors and college students complete to apply for federal, need-based financial aid.
FAFSA Eligiblity:
U.S Citizen or Permanent Resident
Enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate program at an eligible college or career/trade school
By completing your FAFSA, students could qualify for federal loans, federal work study, federal grants and need-based scholarships (e.g. Roberta B. WIllis Scholarship)! Start your FAFSA here: www.studentaid.gov

What is AACTUS?
The Aid Application for CT Undocumented Students is an application that allows a specific group of undocumented students to apply for college/university-specific financial aid.
AACTUS Eligiblity:
Be a CT Resident
Be 16 years of age when you arrived in US and have continuously lived in US since arrival
You have completed high school level education in CT for at least two years
You graduated from high school in CT
You have not been convicted of felony in any US state
You are currently without legal immigration status but have filed an application to legalize immigration status or will file such application ass soon as you are eligible

A CSS Profile is an online application that prospective college students complete to access college/university-specific financial aid, such as scholarships. It is not required by all colleges and universities. See a list of schools that require it, HERE.
