Hi all,
I just wanted to drop you all a short note, on behalf of the board of trustees, ahead of the Christmas period. The work that you do all year round impacts so many people's lives in a positive way but it feels even more important now given the challenges that our communities are facing. And Christmas, of course, just highlights these challenges even more. On behalf of my fellow trustees I would like to wish you all a happy and peaceful time over the Christmas period and here's to a more prosperous 2023.
Helo pawb,
Rwyf am gynnig nodyn bach i chi gyd, ar ran bwrdd yr ymddiriedolwyr, wrth i ni groesawu gwyl y Nadolig. Mae eich gwaith chi drwy gydol y flwyddyn yn effeithio more bositif ar fywydau pobl a mae'n teimlo mwy pwysig nawr gan gysidro yr heriau sydd yn wynebu ein cymunedau. Ac, wrth gwrs, mae'r Nadolig yn amlygu yr heriau yma fwy fyth. Ar ran fy nghyd ymddiriedolwyr hoffwn ddymuno amser hapus a heddychlon i chi gyd dros wyl y Nadolig a edrych ymlaen at 2023 mwy llewyrchus.
Nadolig Llawen a Blwyddyn Newydd Dda
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Ed Evans (Chair/Cadeirydd)
Christmas can be a time of stress and or unhappiness for some.
Remember, help and information is at hand with our employee assistance programme, LifeWorks.

There are also some great tips for coping with Christmas on the Mind website.
Every quarter we send an impact report to each of our two councils presenting the work that you are all doing and the effect that you have on people's lives.
Simon Ellington wanted to share the response from Councillor Sean Morgan, the Leader of Caerphilly Council, which he also copied to the Chief Executive and all of the cabinet members.
Hi
Thank you for this update. Can you pass on our thanks to all staff, they are doing an absolutely incredible job and their work is needed now more than ever.
Regards,
Sean
So impressed were the team at X-Ray with Lauren Nation's first appearance on the BBC Wales Consumer programme, they asked her back for a second time.
You can see Lauren https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001fbqc
Our very own Lauren Nation joined Lucy Owen in the Ask the Expert section at the end of consumer show X-Ray.
Although slightly nervous initially, Lauren was the consummate professional and said afterwards that she thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Filming took place in the beautiful, albeit slightly damp on the day, Brecon last Tuesday and you can see the results by clicking on the blue button:
As the rain starts to fall, Lauren asks host Lucy Owen if she can borrow her coat.
Lucy said no!
Our partnership working has been recognised at the 2022 Third Sector wards.
The Help through Hardship service, funded by the Trussell Trust, was shortlisted for a Third Sector Award for the best partnership category. In recognition of all the great work the Caerphilly team is doing we were invited to attend the event in London on the 30th September and Georgia Dale (third from right) represented us.

The Sharp End
We've recently been contacted by both ITV Wales and BBC Wales to participate in broadcasts. Unfortunately the ITV Wales news item was cancelled at the last minute, but we were shortly after approached to speak about the Cost of Living crisis. ITV Wales' weekly political show, The Sharp End, which looks at issues affecting the people of Wales.
To see our very own Debt Team Leader, Carys Birby and Advice Service Manager, Keith Thorne (not to mention our lovely Ruth Headon answering the phone in the Bargoed office) click on the link to the right.
Carys and Keith were interviewed in our Bargoed office by The Sharp End host Rob Osborne about the Cost of Living Crisis.
Sophie Cooper live on BGFM from Lisa's office in Caerphilly!!
After being postponed a few times for various reasons, Sophie Cooper finally made it on the airwaves in August to discuss consumer issues and scams.
Sophie admitted to being a tad nervous to go live on air on local radio BGFM and she really wanted it to go well.
She needn't have worried, she was fantastic and a credit to CACBG. Sophie answered all the questions put to her with professionalism and poise, even the odd 'curveball' questions thrown at her by DJ Stevo.
We began having regular slots on BGFM whilst still in Lockdown, and all our 'appearances' were remote via the magic of Zoom or Google Meets.
Last week Advicelink Specialist Adviser, Wendy Hallett escaped from her laptop and took the trip to Ebbw Vale to take part live in the studio.
Wendy, seen here with BGFM host 'Stevo', did a fantastic job answering questions on a wide range of debt issues.
Listen out later this month for Advicelink Team Leader Terry O'Neill discussing income maximisation.
After two failed attempts to try to celebrate our 21st Anniversary, it was third time lucky in June. CACBG turned 21 in June 2021 but twice Covid prevented us from doing so.
On Thursday June 16th, we hosted an event at Llancaiach Fawr Manor to celebrate our growth as an organisation and recognise the support given to us by our partners and funders. We wanted to showcase the excellent work you do each and everyday. What better to do this than make a film.
You might have seen Communications Officer Emma Gray with a cameraman in both the Bargoed office and Caerphilly Contact Centre. They worked with staff and volunteers to pull together five short films to be shown between each speech at the event. We thought you might like to see what we came up with.
Specialist Welfare Benefits Adviser Mike Williams captured some images on the day
Under the leadership of Simon Ellington, CACBG has gone from strength to strength.
We now employ over 200 paid staff in the counties we serve.
MS Minister for Social Justice, Jane Hutt, took the opportunity at our event to announce the Basic Income pilot scheme which would see those leaving care at the age of 18 receive a guaranteed income for three years.
Attendees were asked to leave us messages and many obliged, reminding us it is all worthwhile.
The sun shone down on us at the beautiful Llancaiach Fawr Manor in Caerphilly County in June.
Over 70 invited guest from the Counties of Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent as well as Citizens Advice National and Cymru attended to celebrate our development, growth and success.
All were agreed that what we do here, and by 'we' we mean YOU, is so important and valuable, not just to our local communities, but across England and Wales via our contact centre services.
It's a pity that not all staff could be invited, but the thanks and appreciation that was expressed by our speakers and guests extends to all of you who help make CACBG the fantastic organisation is it.
We simply couldn't do it without you. 🥰
