RULER stands for:
Together, the four anchor tools of the RULER program provide the foundation for enhancing emotional intelligence among students, educators, and families. Using these tools in the classroom can enhance a wide variety of outcomes, including: teaching practices, academic performance, relationship quality among and between teachers and students, decision making, self-regulation, and empathy. The anchor tools also help prevent unwanted experiences like bullying and aggression and promote a positive school climate and culture.
Fusion with Toolbox (our other social emotional learning curriculum): RTA is using two social emotional curriculums to teach RTA students social and emotional skills, RULER and Toolbox. Ruler is strongest at helping students recognize and understand their feelings and actions. Toolbox helps students to express and regulate their emotions by teaching twelve coping tools, detailed above in the "Toolbox Section". We believe that the two curriculums are even stronger when taught together and in combination.
The Charter is a mission statement for the learning and working environment that leaders, staff, and students pledge to maintain. The focus is on how each stakeholder wants to feel, what needs to happen for those feelings to be consistently present, guidelines for handling uncomfortable feelings and conflict, and methods for creating and sustaining a positive climate.

What is the Mood Meter? This a great video to explain this anchor tool to both students and adults!
How you’re feeling on the inside can have a huge impact on how you’re behaving on the outside. The Mood Meter is a tool to help us learn to recognize our emotions and talk about our feelings.
Do we want to stay in the emotions we are experiencing? Do we want to shift our feelings to other emotions? Do we want to enhance the feeling we are having or reduce the level to which we feel it?
If you'd like to use the Mood Meter at home, here is a link to a worksheet to help students identify how they are feeling: Mood Meter Feelings Sheet
