Teaching

Physical Chemistry

Dr. Sharma teaches the one-year Physical Chemistry curriculum embedded with a strong flavor of computational chemistry. The course uses Wolfram language to integrate computational thinking into the course. The students also learn Mathematica and its applications to Physical Chemistry. The laboratory experience includes molecular modeling, molecular dynamics simulations, and quantum mechanical calculations using state-of-the-art software.

Scientific Computing

Dr. Sharma designed and developed the "Introduction to Scientific Computing" course at Wagner College. This course introduces first-year students to computational thinking and applications of Wolfram language to the natural sciences. The course also provides students with hands-on experience in the fields of molecular visualization and elementary modeling. The course philosophy, design, and implementation have been published in the Journal of Computational Science Education.

Computational Chemistry

Dr. Sharma designed and taught an undergraduate level Computational Chemistry course involving reactive molecular dynamics at Wagner College. This course was taught in an embedded research experience style. The entire class investigated combustion mechanism of jet fuels and compared their results with published literature. The course topics have included molecular dynamics, electronic structure theory, and chemoinformatics. The selection of topics changes based on student interest and current projects in the group.

Honors General Chemistry

Dr. Sharma developed a computational experience embedded Honors General Chemistry course at Wagner. The second-semester General Chemistry course is taught in the Honors curriculum as a technology intensive Chemistry experience. That course utilizes small simulations and online interactive tools to supplant some of the traditional lecture experiences and engage students in active learning.

General Chemistry

He teaches the first semester course as part of Wagner College First Year Program. His Learning Community course is called "The Love-Hate Relationship Between Humans, Microbes, and Chemicals" and is taught with Dr. Christopher Corbo.
