String Orchestra TO is a community orchestra which provides strong intermediate and advanced string players in Toronto with the opportunity to develop their passion for string playing through traditional Baroque, Classical and Romantic repertoire written specifically for string orchestras, and to bring this music to our audiences for their education and pleasure.
Our orchestra is modelling different ways of developing string orchestral playing by emphasizing, at each rehearsal, the development of string playing techniques and music-making through the exposure to a variety of pieces, each requiring different technical and musicality requirements. This is a significantly different approach from traditional orchestra formats, which are guided by a performance dates and the preparing of several pieces for those dates.
Our orchestra is led by the dynamic team of:
William McMillan and Michele Frensch
Currently, we are especially looking for strong intermediate and experienced Violin and Viola players.
We are looking to grow our orchestra to approximately 30 members and are endeavouring to expose a broader community to what we do each week.
If you are looking to join a string orchestra with opportunities to explore the richness of the string repertoire with other like-minded musicians then String Orchestra TO is the one in which we all experience growth in our technical skills as well as in our musical development, in an encouraging and exciting rehearsal format.
You are welcome to come and try a rehearsal and can join at any time.
