TIPS FOR MEASURING CURTAINS SIZE

  1. Use a metal measuring tape for accurate measurements. Do not use flexible cloth tapes. Note down the width and length.

  2. Measure each window separately.

  3. For windows that are not square, measure the width in three places: top, middle, and bottom.

Measurement for Horizontal blinds & plates, roll-up and Roman shades

Inside mount installation:

Width: Measure [A] where head rail will be installed.

Length: Measure [B] from top of inside casing to window sill.

Outside mount installation:

Width: Measure [C] where head rail will be installed. For maximum privacy and light control, horizontal blind and pleated shade head rails must overlap window opening at least 1 ½” on each side. Roman shades must overlap window at least 2” on each side.

Length: Measure [D] where top of head rail will be installed to the sill or floor.

Measurement for Inside mount vs. flush inside mount

Inside mount installation:

For this type of mount, the brackets will be installed on the inside face of your window casing, so the blind or shade will fit inside the window.

Flush inside mount installation:

The brackets are installed the same way as an inside mount. However, additional casement depth is needed so that the blind will not protrude past the window opening.opening

Measurement for For rod-pocket and pole-top.

Determine width:

Measure window width [A] including casing, if any. Rod pocket items are not hung flat. They are gathered and stirred. So you’ll need extra fabric to cover your window..

Determine length:

  • Measure how far down you want your window covering to go. You generally have three options when determining the length,

    1. Measure from the top of the rod pole to the windowsill [B]. Subtract ½” from that measurement and order that length.

    2. Measure from the top of the rod pole to the apron [C]. Order that length.

    3. Measure from the top of the rod pole to the floor [D]. Subtract ½” from that measurement and order that length.

Measurement for pinch pleated draperies

To replace existing draperies:

Simply measure across the top of both panels. Order that width. Next, measure down the side of one of the panels. Order that length.

To measure for new draperies:

Determine width: You will first need to determine your rod width.

Determine drapery length: The rod should be positioned at least 2” to 4” above the window so pleats are not seen from the outside. Measure for length from where the top of the rod will be positioned to the desired length. Most common lengths are to the windowsill [B], just below the window trim (or apron) [C], or to the floor [D]. If using a decorative traverse rod or pole with rings, measure from the eye of the carrier or ring to the sill, apron or floor. Apron is normally calculated by adding 6” to the height till the sill.

TIPS FOR MEASURING BED SIZE

HOW TO MEASURE BED SIZE FOR NEW MATTRESS

Scratching your head over which bed size to buy? We understand that your dilemma, so we have provided a simple bed guide to help you make the right decision.

But before we get into that, let us help you with measuring your bed.

To measure your bed, first strip it of all the bedding and accessories. You will need a retractable measuring tape, a notebook, and a pen. Begin by placing one end of the tape on the left corner of the bed and lock it. Now pull the tape until you are at the right corner. Note down the measurement. This is the width of your bed.

For the length, start by placing the tape at the middle top of your bed, and lock it. Now extend the tape until you are at the bottom of the bed. This is the length of your bed.

Ensure that the measurements are of the bed cavity and not end-to-end, so that your mattress will fit snugly on your bed.

With the length and the width measurements, you can easily choose the right bed for your space.

Here are some of the standard bed sizes available in the market.

  • King size bed: A king-size bed is usually 72 inches(1.8 m) wide and 72 to 78 inches (1.83m to 1.98m) long. These are just basic measurements.

  • Queen size bed: A queen size bed’s dimensions are 60 or 66 inches(1.52m or 1.68 m) wide and 72 to 75 inches(1.83m to 1.91m) long. This size is narrower than a king-size bed.

  • Double bed : beds are usually 48 inches(1.22 m) wide and range between 72 to 75 inches(1.83m to 1.91m) in length. They are perfect for a single adult who cherishes their personal space but will make a tight fit for two adults. It is a good compromise between a single bed and a queen-size bed. These cots are economical and suitable for smaller apartments. As such, they are usually preferred by freshly-graduated adults or teenagers.

  • Single bed: The most common option for growing children, a single bed can be 30, 36 or 42 inches(76.2 cm, 91.4 cm, 1.07 m) in width and 72 to 78 inches(1.83m to 1.98m) in length. Twin beds can perfectly accommodate a single child and make for easy modifications, in case you want to put two side by side in a shared bedroom or want to stack them up for a bunk bed. These beds or variants of it are also common in dorm rooms, hostels etc.

Now that you know the specifics of the beds, you can choose one based on room size, price and other factors. Those unhappy with the usual sizes can opt for a custom bed.
