OBTAINING A HAM RADIO LICENSE

If you do not have a Ham Radio license, they are easy to obtain. The FCC currently issues three different classes of amateur radio license: Technician, General, and Extra and in 2007 the FCC eliminated the mores code requirement for all amateur licenses.

There are many free on-line testing guides and practice test. You can also purchase study guides at HRO (Ham Radio Outlet), both on-line and in San Diego.

We also have regularly scheduled one day Technician classes followed by a testing session. The classes have a 95% pass rate.

To apply for a license you will first need to obtain an FRN number, from the FCC registration site. This is used in lieu of your SSN when you fill out you application. You can obtain the FRN online at: https://apps.fcc.gov/coresWeb/publicHome.do
