This "Star Party Evening" was held at Mike Weir Park on July 16, 2022 from 9pm-11:30pm. Despite the intermittent clouds, It was a major success with well over two hundred people in attendance. Upon arriving the first 50 families were given a Sarnia RASC "swag bag" and then spent time talking with local astronomers who were manning 7 different stations. We had 3 fully automated Astrophotography rigs set up and projecting images onto projector screens along with 3 observing telescopes and one binocular station. People were able to ask questions and see how all of the astronomy equipment worked. At just after 10pm we had our "Tour of the sky" green laser show, pointing out summer constellations and other celestial objects that we could see. We even enjoyed a fly by of the ISS which was very exciting to watch.
Special Thanks to:
Sarnia Lambton County Library: Andrea Basra, Lisa Oleniuk and Vanitia Campbell and all the other Library staff behind the scenes.
Sarnia RASC Centre: Paul Dopson, Fransisco Luces, Richard Lauzon, Martin Cogswell, Aili Dopson, Cam Ho, Massimo Dopson, Domonic Dopson, Ellie Ho, Nathan Ho.
We got the answers!
The moon is not made of cheese, but it smells really good... like chocolate cocoa powder. Domonic & Massimo had a live demonstration of how craters are formed and what happens when meteors hit the moons surface. They also gave informative lectures accompanied by pictures and video. Together they helped inform the people in attendance at this moon presentation.
