Death in Westerbork internment camp 1945 - 1948

CAMP WESTERBORK

After the liberation, the camp was used by the Dutch government from April 17, 1945 to January 1, 1949 to detain NSB members and other collaborators and political offenders while awaiting their trial. In the first period of the internment camp in particular, dozens of prisoners were killed due to epidemics, systematic malnutrition and assault. These dead among the political prisoners (NSB members and Dutch volunteers of the Waffen-SS and SD) were buried in a mass grave by the Dutch guards in a nearby forest.
