Help a brother out here...2011 was such a blur...Oh my God! We finished the most expansive and expensive cabin remodel in generations!

2010

Best Year EVER!!

Cabin Opening went off without a hitch...the men argued about whether or not the roll-a-dock was straight, then Pete held out his arm straight as can be and pointed to the East...the waters parted a path straight in that direction. The men rolled the dock perfectly in place.

The annual golf tourney took place on July 3rd at Albany GC. Congrats to the winning team-Jon Herges, Curtiss herges, Deanna Herges, Carl Botz, and Mark Baltes. No other teams are relevant.

On July 4th, Queen (and also President) Joan spoke, "Let them eat fish." And we did. And they were good. More than 70 Botz, Herges, Baltes, Kirscht, Enright, Gapstur, Barton, Ek, Sheehan, Billig, Schwantes, and Demaret (did I miss anyone) family members-and friends whose last names we don't remember at this edit but are always pleasant-counted off for the fish fry and 835 slabs were consumed. The evening's entertainment included the revived Lip Sync, showcasing talented and brave, big and little Cs adn was emceed by Baltes brothers David and Sam. A fabulous fireworks display capped the day. God has blessed America and our family at the King's Lake Cabin.

Uncle Pete's 80th birthday bash was celebrated on July 10th. The Herges family hosted a surprise party for our octogenarian. The fun began with a mini-golf tourney played at the challending Kings Lake Country Club course, which featured water holes, sand traps, jock straps, and other hazards. Winning team members were Kelsey Gapstur, Rachel Baltes, Kirsten Erickson, and Isabel Billig. There was another great family dinner highlighted by a big rainstorm. Which brings us to another summer event.

After a hailstorm damaged the cabin roof, the Board of Governors along with owners voted to reshingle the roof (covered by insurance). And then Mikel Baltes had a brilliant idea! Since we were already under construction, how about raising the roof over the nasty space called the "back room?" Mikel spent countless hours designing and costing the project and convinced the other owners-even Uncle John-of the merits of the project. Mikel was our fearless and experienced leader and was assisted over several weekends by many aunts and uncles, big Cs and their spouses, and little cs, who all volunteered their time to demolish, pound, clean, and offer helpful suggestions. The names are too many to mention, but you can can see photos from the project by clicking here. The project was completed in Spring 2011.
