TREASURER'S REPORT FOR JANUARY 2015
Still am waiting for several members to renew their memberships. Won't name them as they were identified in past newsletters. Please renew if you are planning to continue as a member of this Society.
I plan on printing a new membership list soon after the February meeting so if you are not paid your name will not be listed.
FINANCIAL REPORT:
Based on the figures in the January 2015 newsletter
SAVING ACCOUNT:
December 31, 2014 Balance $13,957.89
Deposits 0.70
Transfer to checking 100.00
January 27, 2015 Balance $13,858.59
The deposit was the 4th quarter interest income. The transfer was made from the Judges Discretionary Funds to pay for a gratuity to Brad Kasperek for the judges training session last June which I had mistakenly not paid when Brad was here.
CHECKING ACCOUNT:
December 31, 2014 Balance $747.52
Deposits 130.00
Expenses paid 111.89
January 27, 2015 Balance $ 765.63
The deposits were for 3 memberships received at the January meeting and the $100 transfer from savings. The expenses paid were to Brad Kasperek for the $100 gratuity and to Elizabeth Gustafson for purchasing paper plates which are used during the meeting dinners $11.89.
The new meeting place at Fort Missoula is warm and inviting and we do not have to pay for this facility which is great. Thanks to the new Historical Museum Director Matt Lautzenheiser for suggesting this facility to meet. I will have a sign put front where the facility is located. It is at the parade grounds which is a quarter mile east of the Historical Museum, then turn right and is in the two story white building at the end of the first block( at the stop sign).
Respectfully submitted,
Swede Gustafson, Treasurer
MINUTES OF THE MISSOULA IRIS SOCIETY OF JANUARY 10, 2015
Thank you Ed for serving as the president for the past five years. A job well done and appreciated.
The meeting was called to order at 7:12 p.m. by President Ed Verplancke at our new meeting location at Building T-11 at Fort Missoula.
The minutes of the November meeting were approved as they appeared in the January newsletter.
Swede reported on the treasurer’s report:
SAVINGS ACCOUNT $13,958.59
CHECKING 747.52
Bills left to pay $11.49 to Betty Ann for the dinner paper plates at meetings . $100.00 to Brad Kasperek for gratuity for the Judging Class at the Iris Show
Following this I mentioned the Net worth for the Society which now is $14,882.84 after the two above bills were paid today.
I also did a little study on the budget for 2015 and added $50 to the Programs item to increase it to $100 and the remaining $500 I made a new category for the Iris Convention for $500. Of this I think some will need to be designated for our RVP to attend and the remainder for the others who are planning to attend. The amount will need to be determined by our Board members at a future meeting.
Reminder: Memberships are due for 2015 at $10 per member for the year
Nominations: Jim Sadler, the nominating committee chair, nominated the following officers for the year 2015: President, Donna Dowell, Secretary Carol Addeo, Treasurer Swede Gustafson. He also suggested Judy Blunt for Vice President/Show Chair, but she has been out of town and unavailable for confirmation. President Ed called for nominations from the floor three times; there were no further nominations so the slate of officers was passed with a motion from Jim Sadler, and a second from Cindy Davis. The slate of officers will be:
President Donna Dowell
Secretary Carol Addeo
Treasurer Swede Gustafson.
The office of Vice President will remain temporarily open until the position can be filled.
President elect Donna Dowell assumed the leadership of the meeting from outgoing President Ed Verplancke.
Thank you Ed for having served as president since 2010.
A thank you was given to Ed for his service as president for the past five years.
June Show: Discussion followed regarding the June show. Betty Ann and Swede cannot chair the show again due to health issues. A discussion on several conflicts with the date of the show in mid June. It was decided to move the date from June 13 to June 20, 2015. Donna will check with the mall to see if the date is available in Penney’s Court.
Jim Sadler and Gary Clark offered to co-chair the garden show if the date is changed to June 20. It was noted that the show schedule needs to be submitted to AIS by mid February and medals need to be ordered. Booklets were printed at Denny’s Copy Shop last year.
Median Show: It was also decided not to have a median show this year because it would conflict with the AIS convention in late May. The motion to cancel median show was made by Ed, seconded by Swede and passed.
Discussion followed on the benefits of attending the AIS convention because of the many informative classes. The club used to offer a small reimbursement to those who attended so that they could report back to the rest of us. No decision made on that.
Jim Sadler reported that all judges need garden credits and he plans to do an in house garden tour of other member yards to allow 2 hours of judging time for everyone.
Garden Worker: Discussion led by Carol Addeo to hire a part time temporary garden worker for next gardening season to maintain the fort gardens. Carol Addeo suggested her neighbor high school student Arthur Befumo, age 17 who resides at 3333 Eldora Lane. He is a senior at Hellgate High School, is a National Merit Scholarship student. He has worked for Carol once a week for three years, and is very dependable and knowledgeable about plants and gardening. He will accept the gardening position if offered to him. Our budget item allows for 560 hours at $10 per hour, not to exceed 600 hours. Some weeding and maintenance will still need to be done by club members. Cindy made a motion to hire Arthur Befumo as a part time temporary garden weeder; motion was seconded by Gary. Motion passed.
2015 Budget – Swede discussed certain budget items which have changed or been added; the proposed budget was printed in the December newsletter. The new budget is $5,835. There is an extra $550 which could be used for convention funds. The decision was postponed. The budget of $5,835 was passed as proposed.
Audit Committee: The audit committee will be Cindy Davis and Gary Clark.
Presidential rhizome: The presidential rhizome winner for December is Swede Gustafson and January is Donna Dowell.
The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Carol Addeo
