Only the Police or County Highways Department have the authority to close roads. It must not be attempted by Civil Emergency Volunteers or members of the community.

E EMERGENCY SERVICES Are they present or required?
T TYPE Air crash, explosion, major fire etc
S SAFETY Of all personnel

*Ascertain above details as quickly as possible.
*Call 999 (or numbers shown on page one if problems getting through).
*Try to obtain further details ready for Emergency Services arrival:
Casualties – location, type, number.
Fire – actual or imminent, what and where, any hazardous items nearby e.g. fuel, gas bottles, paint, explosives.
*If a vehicle is involved does it have a Hazard Warning Panel and if so what?
*Are any buildings in danger of collapse?
*Is approach clear for vehicles?
