Purpose

This site is a place to find helpful information about the 2022 Gaylord Middle School girls volleyball season. The mission of the GMS volleyball team is to teach our players the fundamentals of volleyball, and give them an opportunity to grow emotionally, physically, and socially. We emphasize growth over winning. We value respect and responsibility.

What our Season Looks Like

This year we are offering six voluntary preseason practices. Eighth grade preseason practices will be on August 23, 24, 25, from 4:00-5:15 at the GIS gymnasium; and August 30, 31, Sept. 1, from 4:00-5:15 at the GMS gymnasium. Seventh grade preseason practices will be August 23, 34, 25, from 3:30-5:00 at the GIS gymnasium; and August 29, 30, Sept. 1, from 3:30-5:00 at the GMS gymnasium.

Tryouts begin the first day of school at 3:15. Girls may not try out without a physical on record with the schools. You can print the forms here. Physical and Parental Consent forms for athletics

Tryouts usually last three to four days. The most players that either the 7th or 8th grade team may roster is 24. Each grade will have two teams. It is the coaches intent to place girls on the two teams so that the teams are of balanced ability.

During our season, we practice every day Monday-Friday except for game days. We play up to two games a week. Half are away, half are home. We will be participating in one Saturday tournament in Petoskey on October 1, and one midweek home tournament. Our season runs through mid October.
