3 Minute Thesis Competition (Current research, previous research work, Project)


Can you explain your research in 3 minutes? You can find it out by participating in the 2022 3MT® competition! 3MT® is an international research communication competition in which graduate students explain their research to a general audience. Students in master’s and Ph.D. programs from all disciplines are eligible to compete, and prizes will be awarded to the winners.

Who is Eligible?:

Currently enrolled master's and doctoral students in all disciplines at Clarkson University will be eligible to participate in 3MT. The work presented must have been conducted at Clarkson University.

Registration Process:

  • RSVP for Registration by Apr 10, 2022

  • Submit Abstract within 300 words by April 20, 2022

  • Submit one page/one slide presentation by April 26, 2022

Rules & Regulations

Rules & Regulations:

  • Work presented must have been conducted at Clarkson University.

  • The content of the presentation should be their own research or work. (otherwise, it will be counted as plagiarism)

  • A single static PowerPoint slide is permitted (no slide transitions, animations, or ‘movement’ of any kind; the slide is to be presented from the beginning of the oration).

  • No additional electronic media (e.g. sound and video files) are permitted.

  • No additional props (e.g. costumes, musical instruments, laboratory equipment) are permitted.

  • Zoom backgrounds are considered props. Please ensure your background is a blank screen or wall. (**depends on whether there will be zoom options)

  • Presentations are limited to three minutes maximum and competitors exceeding three minutes are disqualified.

  • Presentations are to be spoken in words (i.e. no poems, raps, or songs).

  • Presentations are to commence from the stage.

  • Presentations are considered to have commenced when presenters start their presentation through movement or speech.

  • The decision of the adjudicating panel is final.

  • Only CRC (Capital Region Campus) Students are eligible to send the recorded video with their power point presentation before the event.

Prizes:

  • Champion: Crest, Certificate, 1000$ prize money*

  • First Runner-up: Crest, Certificate, 500$ prize money*

  • Second Runner-up: Crest, Certificate, 250$ prize money*

  • GSA Best Presentation Slide Winner: Crest, Certificate

  • Winning lab: Champion will get a trophy for his/ her lab


*Prize money will be provided as a reimbursement. Prize money can only be provided for educational purposes upon presenting the receipt. The option includes travel cost for conference/ workshop**, registration for the conference, subscription to students’ study field-related association, journal, or any research-related tools.
